Home Brew

Recommended Posts

Well in the spirit of my favourite poster I'm gonna have to add to the ever growing selection of random but much discussed topics in here.

Afore I start I just wanted to say, geedee I wish 2 things on a daily basis (when reading the forum) one that I had enough time to read all your memoirs and two that I had more "blueys" to give ye!

Right so home brew!

Well as I've always fancied havin a bash, have made sloe gin and vodka afore (different story). So I recently acquired a wee starter kit, complete with fermenter etc etc.

First up I thought I'd give cider a go, as well I'm pretty sure it's a lot harder to get wrong than beer.

So the brew has been bubbling away for well almost 4 weeks now and once I get off this *** forsaken rig I'll be (as the experts say) priming and bottling!

Hopefully I manage to get it right and should have about 5 gallon of sweet cider drinkable in time for Christmas 😀

So I think I originally decided to post to see if anyone else has had a bash at home brew or the likes?

dblair - Get yourself an all grain set up. I've been running a microbrewery out my garage for a few years now and entering competitions all over the country meeting some folk making phenomenol stuff that gets picked up by breweries.

Kits are all fine and well, but if you're serious and really want to impress yourself and others you'll want to get doing the whole process with mash tun, boiler etc. Also there's some pretty good books out there I could recommend if you're interested.

If you've any questions just run them by me and i'll hopefully have some advice :)

Ah the we have a brew master in our midst! To tell you the truth Abdul ever since I got started I have been researching a sh*t load about different methods, techniques etc etc. I'd love to have the space and time to eventually go all grain I really would.

I might just take you up on that offer in the near future and bend your ear

Good lad. It's a fantastic hobby and you'll honestly never be done learning. Best of luck with your IPA when you get that one going.
