Do You Think The Americans Are Glad They Got Involved With D.f.c? Or For.......

The last bit of the Topic Heading is .....

"Or For That matter, Are We Glad They Became Involved & Have They Lived Up To Our Expectations ?

The following, maybe answers both questions. I think they're quietly & (I hope) steadily, making progress.

After arriving in a blaze of glory and generally being welcomed by most DFC fans & supporters, it seems

they either prefer working away in the background (without publicity) which may well be the way to do it.

Or have NOT quite bought into the idea, of being full part of the Dundee Club, or no quite understanding the

history of DFC and or the culture/tradition of the Dundee People. (See, I've decided,it's cultured we are) :)

This is no in anyway a criticism of them (or us) But I would be interested in other's views. Hope the do still

retain that initial enthusiasm, that was evident when they first arrived. I think with their backing we'll progress.

I suspect they aren't in it for a quick buck...as they say the best way to make a million in business is to invest in a football club. That's assuming you started with 10 million!

What they are in it for I'm not actually sure... But i do think they will want to see some year-on-year improvement on and off the park. Last season ticked that box. This season may or may not. So, come the end if the season we may get an idea of the aspirations of out owners.

A top 6 finish was viewed as being towards the end of their 5 year plan. When they got involved they gave it 2 seasons to get up. So we are well ahead of schedule in their eyes regardless of our struggles at the moment.

Well on the basis of above we are probably going along nicely  in their eyes Ludo (even wi a bad patch)

Because of oor long, suffering history, supporting DFC, we are allowed tae get scunnered with Our Club.

BUT DINNAE WANT THEM TAE THINK THEY ARE ALLOWED TAE, AND SCAMPER BACK HAME :)

Just because we are ahead of schedule doesn't mean we should be happy to stagnate till we meet our next progress marker.

Certainly in my work if we were two years ahead of where we were expected to be we wouldn't be sitting on our arses patting each other on the back for it. We would be expected to pick up from that marker and move onto the next, not give ourselves 2 years to hit it.

I think the manager has tried to kick on this season but it's just not happening. If this turns out to be a season where we consolidate our position as a top tier club and then try again to kick on in the summer, that to me would be acceptable.

There's no doubt Hartley has made mistakes and needs to take a look at himself but if we're going to progress as a club we need to stick by managers and not swing the axe at the first sign of trouble.

Don't think they will be happy of how this season is going. They want to make Dundee Fc into a USA brand, or as close to it, well they won't get that with Championship team.  Keyes was in the papers few months back saying he wants Dundee to be a top4 club, we are miles off that.

Last week against Aberdeen and the camera switched to Nelms, he didn't look happy. They got rid of Brown because they felt Dundee wasn't progressing. Hartley has improved the club, but has he just reached his level ? Yes he wants to manage Celtic or a bigger club, but who is to say he can achieve that? I'm sure all managers want to manage at the top, but some just can't cut it. Hartley has never managed another club at this level, so everyday is a new day for him, all these problems are new for him. No one can say Hartley is the best next thing because he got Alloa to Div 1 and Dundee promoted...Dundee were top when he took over, good players for that league and bear in mind, it was Hamilton who threw it away.  No one can tell how this will pan out, he might learn from it and be a better manager either here or elsewhere OR he might just fail and stay at Div 1 sides like St Mirren and turn into a Duffy type manager.  Some managers do just a reach a point though where they have taken the club as far as they can. They will learn from this and might be successful elsewhere and do better.

Dundee Fc is bigger than one man, relegation costs more than one man and could have a long term impact for the club. BUT on the other hand Dundee do have a reputation of sacking managers, but that is because (bar hartley), we have always taken the cheap option, most cases was the only option. But we are in a different phase now for Dundee. We are trying to be a top4 club, in final of competitions and in my view a long way off this at the moment.Do we have the players to take us there, In my view no, far too weak in certain areas.  Fans getting excited that Hartley brought in ice baths .....tbh 97% of clubs have them, it just showed how poorly run we have been for years. Hartley brought in these fitness bands for players, check how many injures we get though! The board will know if themselves and Hartley share the plan and ideas for the club and will know if they will give this bad patch time to change.

Keyes has already sacked Hartley's head of youth, no one really knows the real reason for that, but strange that he was just given a year, when youth takes time to develop. In the press conference, Hartley didn't know of the Dutch link.....could be telling porkies, but he could be telling the truth maybe Keyes and Nelms just hasn't told him or given him the full details of it. Hartley job is just the first team and to get results, something that isn't going well 5 wins in 31 games.

Short term thinking : DFC fans

Long term thinking : The Board of DFC

Not our fault that the fans want some success after all those barren years, looks like we'll have to wait though  :chin:

Do you think honestly it is as simple as that though Gnasher ?

The majority of DFC FANS are accepting, that real success is,

NOT going to happen overnight (although we would welcome it)

But there is also that fear o' relegation (stuck doon there again)

Idea of "Long term thinking  by the BOD" is reassuring of course.

But is there no' a wee part o ye thinking they might say ? That's

it, we have had enough, of the Dundee Club, & aye fans as weel !!

Ok Man Ut stuck with Fergie and he delivered but ha delivered at St Mirren and Aberdeen (big time) so he proved he could win silverware and compete with the OF budget.

PH probs needs more time and its pwe sty up but the main gripe we seem to have is the formation, team set up, etc where its obvious its not working. Surely Nelms and PH talk!!!!

That last bit o' yir post is surely the most relevant ..." Surely Nelms and PH talk !!! "

We dinnae ken whit happens ahent closed doors  (& in maist cases, nor should we)

But I like tae think they, are in regular, productive, meaningful, dicussion all the time.

( I hope Nelms is no' the one dictating, team set-up & formations to PH !! )   :lol2:
