Hard To Believe, But...

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised to find myself thinking that selling arguably our best player (Stewart) may not be the worst thing we could do.

Let's face it, with him in the team we are still struggling with inconsistency and seem powder puff defensively (midfield included.)

Without him we would be worse, undoubtedly. But only if nothing else changed.

So, if we can get a reasonable fee for him, and if PH can a)access some/most/all of the proceeds and b)can spend this windfall wisely, we might end up with a better team. Big 'iffs' I know.

Also, depending on where he goes, and if he goes obviously, we might be able to tap into a loan player or two or even a player in part-exchange.

Alternatively, we lose Stewart, spend nothing on players and end up worse than we are now!

You may have noted in my earlier post a wee bit back HK .....

I gave this issue some more thought, I disagree with you.

As you say, especially in this period of uncertainty, it's awe

"ifs" baith yours & mines & that is worrying me just now

When stewart was first touted as possibly going i wasnt too bothered if we get a decent fee for him, however watching the goals the other day both our goals were a result of stewart running direct at the defence then feeding hemmings. No one else does this apart from maybe harkins, If we did lose stewart i hope to phuck we used any money to get a decent ch or mid but cant see anyone being available in january. With the latest finances i reckon any sale would be used to make up the deficit imo so losing stewart would def weaken us on the pitch at least.

All of the above are extremely fair and valid points to suggest we should not be proactive in selling Stewart . My original post has too many caveats tbf i.e. getting the cash to spend;being able to spend the cash wisely;thinking we can negate the loss of Stewart by bolstering our midfield and defence. You're probably all right to raise eyebrows at selling your best player with no guarantee of strengthening the team with the proceeds.

Agreed guys - we tell Rangers and Brighton and any others to stick their 2million up their arses! :):):)

The point is, you are/were, not the only one suggesting this might be the way to go HK.

Their reasons being similar to your own....releasing some money to strengthen defence.

This is not a criticism of them or you (especially as you have given the reasoning behind

your thinking)   But as you point out, there is no guarantee money would be spent wisely.

THERE IS ALSO THE REAL CONCERN THAT DFC WOULD SELL HIM OFF "CHEAP
