Dundee Stars In Fitness Race To Face Celtic

Recommended Posts

Several Dundee players face fitness checks ahead of tonight’s Dens Park clash with champions Celtic.

Goalkeeper Scott Bain is expected to be in his usual place despite having to have stitches inserted in a leg gash after Saturday’s defeat at Ross County.

But along with Kane Hemmings, Thomas Konrad, Nicky Low and skipper Kevin Thomson, he’s not trained fully since the weekend.

Hemmings has been suffering from a virus, while Konrad and Low took knocks up in Dingwall.

Thomson missed that one because of hamstring trouble and remains a doubt. He looks more likely to return in Saturday’s derby against United.

“A few didn’t train yesterday, so we’ll have to see how they are,†said boss Paul Hartley.

“Bainy should be OK I think but we’ll have to have a look at the others.

“Kane has a virus. He didn’t feel well before Saturday’s game but it obviously didn’t affect his performance.â€

The feeling is, Thomson apart, the others have a decent chance.

The manager, meanwhile, has no worries about under-pressure referee Willie Collum being in charge for the final game of the year.

Collum has awarded four debatable penalties in his last two games and the spotlight is on him.

“Willie is a good referee. We have to respect the referees and the decisions they make.

“Referees have a hard job.â€

I dinnae ken how good the DFC backroom, players fitness staff are, or how much they get paid.

But if they are paid, based on the ratio of injured/ill players they have to treat every day & week,

they must be on an absolute fortune !! On the other hand, if they are paid in proportion to the rate

of their success ........Well, it's maybe time to review again the situation :)

I am not too disappointed that the game is off tonight, it will give us the chance to get everybody fit for the Dabs on Saturday, let's give them a good stuffing !!!! Then deal with Septic later, with Thommo, Bainy, and Hemmings possibly missing tonight it didn't auger well.

I probably was already thinking along the same lines as yourself Abernethy .....(even before the game was postponed)

With the present state of our players fitness, a hard game against Celtic a few days before the Derby, is the last thing

we need. Being realistic, if we took a hammering from them as well (although of course that may NOT have happened)

then what kind of frame of mind would we have been in for the Derby. The opportunity is really there for us now for victory.
