Seasonal Affective Disorder (S A D)

Recommended Posts

http://www.sad.org.uk/                 (THIS LINK WILL EXPLAIN IT BETTER THAN ME)

Like most people (I think)  the long dark days o' winter dinnae bring the best oot in me.

Or let's be totally honest here. I get depressed. But also endure the other symptoms (link)

On a lighter note, it could be said, long association wi DFC is the direct cause of problem.

But those that have known me through my long life will confirm I'm a cheery, positive man.

I have never went to doctors re above, nor will I ever bother,   But if there are anyone who

believes they do have SAD how do they address it.   Are these "lights" any good at all ?

Personally, I do not think they will work, so it is unlikely I will buy them. Unless out there,

there is someone who has successfully used them, &  felt they have benefiited from them.

It's a crazy situation, because as well as affecting sleep, it makes me feel, tired & lethargic.

Yet even in the darkest, dismal, coldest, wettest of winter, a wee bit sunshine & I'm off :)

Gedee, get one of the lights.

They are excellent.

The room lights up slowly over 30 minutes then when the light is at it's brightest (and it gets really really bright) the alarm actually goes off. I find that I am awake well before the alarm tho because of the brightness.

The dog isn't so keen tho cause she thinks it's day light then gets confused when she goes in another room haha.

Thanks for getting back so quickly Abdul......

I have just taken one of our dogs for a small walk....And even with that I feel invigorated (Blue sky & sun at the moment)

Yesterday I was tired all day, but did not go to bed until midnight.(tossed & turned all night & then got up around 4.00am)

I will have to research more. Are they only used to wake you up ? Or are they also used during the short days, if it's dark?

I will be digging out as much information as I can. But if you can tell me anything more? Appreciated. I will be buying one.

Thank you again Abdul, for taking the time to answer.

Gedee...I'm surprised a man of your wisdom (and years) has not been using lights before now.

Personally, i think they are great- so great in fact, I've got them in every room, a couple in the garden and even front and back of car.

Just you mind HK........ I am a sensitive, retiring, sensitive, shy, kind of guy, suffering from a serious seasonal disorder.

That said, I just love a bit o' sharp humour at meh ain expense So fair doos, that wis funny  :lol2:

Wisnae tae eh got tae the end bit aboot lights on the car I realised you were taking the pee :)

As eh wis reading, i wis coontin' awe the lights eh wid need .....And could eh afford awe them !!

(I am serious aboot above though) .....

But just to keep it on a softer note. How many lights will eh need to feel normal, if we lose Sat?

To answer your question Gedee...you won't need any lights if we lose on Saturday. You'll be sitting curled up in a dark corner like the rest if us!

Aye your mair than right on on that score HK Blues. Please, no dark corners.

I'd like to think I've took on life, in a positive manner, as the forever optimistic.

On the simple premise that I have found with past experience it works for me.

I do this automatically with most things, & it has become part of natural way.

However, when it comes to each game, that involves DFC, I know this theory

get's lost somewhere in the practical process. And always very hard to accept

a defeat. Try to kep my pre-game emotions under control. This time I have not.

I think on every post today on here, I've tried to keep the momentum going for

the game on Sat. I'm expecting the Team & the fans at the game to give 100%

I think initially maybe new BOD (& maybe even PH,) didnae realise Our Derby

was every bit as important as any other Derby. They know now. So do it DFC.

(Update & Thank you) ...... . Based on the comments from posters above & others who contacted me with more detailed information,

& further conversation with my doctor, I ordered SAD lights (Arabica). They arrived yesterday. So not yet had chance to try them. I am

not sure all doctors are as knowledgeable or as enthusiastic as he was to their validity/usefulness. But he had no doubt they worked.

It's always more useful however to have feedback from those who have personally used them. For that I am grateful. Thank you again.

This is of course an old thread .... And I've noted the comment by the Forum, advising it may be better to start a new thread, rather than revive this one. However, obviously during the lighter & brighter parts of the past year I have had no reason to use the LUMIE LIGHT.   But I did start using one (in sitting room) a few weeks ago. Accepting that DFC's recent improvement in form has certainly had a part in cheering me up  I have little doubt, the regular use of this light (I use it just as a general light, as well as reading light, for a few hours every day) has added a great deal to my overall disposition winter ... or to put it more simply, it works :bouncy:

I'm no' in anyway trying to promote, or publicise the product. My purpose here is just to offer genuine thanks to all here (& others) who gave me so much advice ...Thank you all.
