Been hearing that Paul Hartley has signed a deal until 2020........

Not sure if this is true, but if it is, this is probably the best bit of news to come out of Dens for a long time.

Also if true, this shows that this board might actually be really thinking long term plans and trying to awaken the 'sleeping giant' of Scottish football.

Is this just word of mouth or is there any links to the rumour mate?

Fantastic if true! What a difference in the whole running of this club from top to bottom than we had 4 or 5 years ago.

If its true it certainly shows ambition from the club and a sense of loyalty from PH, he must be thinking he'll be onwards and upwards before then (we all have ego's) but wants the club to get something. There's definitely a warm fuzzy feeling about the club at the moment.

I hope he is at Dundee for a long time but I don't see the sense in anything more than a three year deal. You only have to look at Motherwell to see how quickly things can change in football... second best team in the country to 3 wins in 20 games all in the space of a few months.

Don't like to be negative about our best manager since Archie Knox. Just nervous about big financial commitments after two admins.

Name me any Motherwell fan tho that wouldnae hae Stuart McColl back just now in a heartbeat. an i'll show ye a liar Football might be a fickle game but lets face it, after aw he did for the club, he should still be there. Y'hae tae tak the bad wi the good and Scottish Club Football lost a real ambassador there. I hope Hartley does stay for the long term. But lets face it. He's a Scotland manager in the making and if the Green Glesgae Jokers came a begging, it would be very hard for him to say no. Personally I dinnae think Deila is in it for the long term and both Dundee teams hae former Celts at the helm and both doing a stellar job. Great for the city.

If, for any reason PH wasn't here, I would have Stuart McCall at Dens in a heartbeat. I do rate the bloke and as you say so do most Well fans.  If it happens at all, I think Hartley and Scotland are many, many years down the line, when he has proved himself at the highest level he can.  If 2020 is true then well done again the BOD.

Listen... we are doin ok. But this "on the verge of something special"

What is that exactly? Once we actually stay in the league for 2/3 seasons on the trot mate we will be on par wi inverness for example. Dunno what you mean by special lol. Hartley hasnt got money or the type of youth to compete wi celtic/aberdeens etc.... my biggest worry is i feel were onto a good season or 2 wi hartley but itll be very very hard replacing him and player's. We need to settle a bit, a million tests ahead to be anywhere near "special"

Harsh post but see the sense in it.

Whats going on at dens has happened at st.mirren, inverness, killes etc.

We are just the same.

Theyve all had decent starts to a season lol. Its how you sustain it with loss over many seasons to come

Lets just settle down

I know its pessimistic but this is how I feel too. We've seen clubs go on a good run for a couple of seasons then either the manager gets head hunted or the best players get sold on or both. The trick seems to be the ability to keep this going and our neighbours have been very good at it it pains me to say. On a slightly more upbeat note, whether this is the start of something long term or just our couple of years I'm loving it, who's going to say no to a couple of really good seasons and dare I say it, maybe a wee trophy.........

I read it on another forum and I'm sure that Ludo will back me up on that as he probably has seen it as well. I'm stating it as a rumour and I'm not entirely sure it's true as I haven't heard anything else to verify it.

Exactly this........we've probably made a wee step forward, but we have to remember we're contesting what is probably the poorest Premier League since conception, and on the footballing side at least we will not have achieved progress till we are at least 2 or 3 seasons as permanent occupiers of the top league.

If the board have offered a contract, hopefully it would be on the basis of achieving some stability, but could more than likely be linked to assuring a compensation settlement if and when any club comes calling for the services of PH. A contract as we know does not guarantee staying in the job, if the man wants to go to another club then he will go contract or not.

Having said that, I think PH has a long way to go yet before being considered for a job with one of the big boys, as he like us, "ain't done nothing yet".
