Dundee have today announced that skipper Kevin Thomson has left the Dens Park side.

The 31-year-old had been plagued by injury during his time at the Dark Blues, but was a stand-out performer when he played.

The departure remains a mystery with Thomson still having half a season left on his contract.

Must be noted that Thomson asked the club for a two-year extension of his deal, which was up in May. That was never an option for Dundee

The Dee would not be drawn on why the midfielder had left the club.

A short statement read: “Dundee Football Club can today confirm that Kevin Thomson has left the club by mutual consent.

“Kevin has been with Dundee FC since the summer of 2014 and made 38 appearances over the past 18 months for The Dee.

“His final match came against Dundee United on January 2nd as a second half substitute in the 2-1 victory.

“We would like to thank Kevin for his contribution during his time at Dens and wish him all the best with the next stage of his career.â€
