GeeDee,

If you're seriously regularly affected up there on the Moray coastline (& not just when the Dee are p*sh), you need a Lumie light, no need to see the witch doctor, they'll just give you some more pills to take.

I (& family) have been using these for 20 years....and for half that, I lived in mid-Norway where winter "daylight" was often a dull grey from 10am to 2pm, otherwise it was as black as the arabs chances of survival

They all have fade down (night) & fade up (morning) features, and the newer ones have other fancier features that may or may not be useful.

This is the all singing/dancing model, there are a few others half this price, or even less. You also need to use genuine Lumie replacement bulbs, which have a "see-through dark blue" tint to the glass....essential....cheap options won't work properly.

Don't waster time/money on other brands, these are the dogs goolies  :o

I'm afraid, though, they probably won't help Abdul's situation, sadly ;)

Good stuff pal, tho if itg happens in March that's just called the onset of Spring ;) haha

As you know Abdul it was a genuine enquiry and I appreciate your previous advice... I will take it further.

(Concerned about taking this thread off-topic tho) But I appreciate your response. Funny, really funny  :lol2:

But it's also right on the mark. No only do I benefit from longer days. As the clouds lift & the sun breaks

through, I can feel my whole body and  mind go right back on track..... from :( back to the me I like :)

(Aplogies to other posters again, for going off topic) ......Thank you as well WoodStein, for your helpful, detailed response.

Out of courtesy, I will keep my appointment with my doctor.   But to be honest I have little faith in any advice he may offer.

It's not surprising at the other side of 70yrs. I do take a range of medication. But NOT sleeping pills !!    It's not something

I want to take, or even likely to take. You mention the Brand Name "LUMIE"    Are you also recommending the model on

the link, which you describe as "all singing/dancing" or is there one more basic (less expensive) which will still  do the job ?

(Again thanks to both yourself and Abdul for your help) I've endured this for as long as I can remember. But just accepted it.

GeeDee,

The "alarm clock" model I've been using for 20 years is no longer in the current range, but each of the "bodyclock" models have the fade up & fade down + alarm features. I bought the "all singing" one for my daughter (you can play MP3 tracks as your alarm sound), but she'd just been given a new more basic one by someone else, so I intend to use it.

I also have the "desklamp", in my office, for those very dark, dreary Nov/Dec/Jan days (ie, just after losing a derby by a lot of goals :badday: ), or days when my head's in danger of nodding onto the keyboard!

There's some useful info on their website http://www.lumie.com/collections/light-therapy-sad?gclid=CKeW5q_Nr8oCFU2NGwodzegOiw about the benefits of the different types.

Last time I was in Aberdeen, John Lewis had some (but not all) in stock. I bought mine from an Aberdeen lighting firm, Trilight, as one of my old colleagues is a director & his advice is always good.

.....it's not easy finding a DFC aspect here, hopefully the post-derby SAD treatment is adequate :chin:

To allow other posters to get more back on topic I will leave this topic at this time WoodStein

But I genuinely, cannot thank yourself & Abdul enough. I will be doing something about it now.

You will know the symptoms better than me. But when I  did a little more research from one of

the SAD websites, I read down a long list of symptoms/signs, & I realised I could tick off every

single box. The main three for me, no energy, no motivation, and basically insomnia.

None of anything listed,  affects me once the. winter months have passed.

Yes,I will be buying a light(s) Thank you again....And look after yourselves.

PS.  Barely slept last night. But if blame there was....

Then it's DFC's fault !!   C'mon the Dee :)
