Dfcss Suggestions.

As everyone always seems to say what the society should be doing I thought I would fire up a topic and boys could post what they think the society should be doing.

Obviously stadium buy back but other things.

Maybe worth explaining your suggestion as to why an improvement is needed.

Society could answer some of the suggestions too if they want or use ideas for future.

Stadium buyback.

My gut feeling is that the club don't want it bought by DFCSS and that they are not prioritizing the buyback themselves.

DFCSS are working hard to re-establish the bond of trust with the board, so it makes sense to align with them on a lot of matters, but this could potentially be the jewel in the DFCSS crown.

RE the stadium buyback - in the unlikely event DFCSS raised 100% of the required cash themselves I'd expect them to retain ownership of Dens but allow the club to play and train etc for free, in exchange for picking up the tab for the upkeep of the pitch and fabric maintenance etc. This keeps Dens as an asset separate from the club itself but very much in Dundee minded peoples control. That could be invaluable should we ever face any financial difficulties along the line. It would also make DFCSS extremely relevant to the future of Dundee FC.

If DFCSS were to come out next week with a scheme to buy back Dens, pay £5, £10 etc a month with the 100% guarantee that money will be held for he stadium buyback, how many fans do we think would sign up? Would you?

I would so theres £10 straight away. Another 99 boys makes £1k a month. another 999 (quarter of our ST holders) makes £10k a month. After 4 months that's £40k plus interest - after a year that's £120k and that's probably your deposit for a mortgage there.

They could then supplement the subscriptions with fund raisers, get Derry Drummer to give them the Bowser for free ( :P), race night / sportsmans dinner with raffle and auction, DD keeps the bar takings in exchange for a buffet ;)

It may be a case of becoming a predominantly fundraising organization in the short term which may not be the direction DFCSS want to go, but in terms of re-building bridges with the fan base it would prove invaluable.

Edited for some truly horrific maths :P

We only raised about £250k when about to dies as a club  - I Doubt we could raise what Dens would cost?   Who would want to be involved in a mortgage that size? What if DFCSS defaulted due to lack of funds and the bank then owned Dens????

I think fans owning Dens is pie in the sky - FPS have to step up to the plate...if it means a player sale,,,e.g. Stewart for 500k then so be it.

Why dont you ivan ?

Curious ? do you think DFCSS arent capable, not a concern or something like that

two reasons mate

1) I think the yanks long term view is a move away from Dens

2) I'm not a fan of "community" ownership of anything. I hated fans ownership and the concept of it and any type of cooperative ownership just isn't for me

Sorry I may be in the minority here but I have no interest in the fans owning the ground.

For me the dFcss sole priority should be shaping the supporter representation in boardroom, ie doing away with The fans rep and appointing an appropriate non exec.

Why would DFCSS give up the right it fought for i.e. to have two elected representatives at board level?

If they appoint a non exec what genuine difference would it make? That person would still be DFCSS rep.

Who would pay this individuals salary or do you think a suitable person would simply come forward as a volunteer? Would you be happy to donate £5 a month to a pay the salary a non executive fans rep with little or no say in the running of the club and with no responsibility on the society board? I know I wouldn't.

Fair enough mate

Dunno if DFCSS owning Dens would be a great thing myself , dont really know much about these things , ideally would like owners to own Dens but like you say it appears they have no interest.

As long as we`re run well within our means and we can give the manager a good budget then i happy and i think they are doing so.

We in time will also be in a position i think to make money from sales of Stewart and Bain

They would give it up to actually gain a greater level of control. From within the DFCSS talent pool I don't think there are many suitable candidates for the role so I think the employment of someone with appropriate skills to provide director services would be a good investment. Somebody like Bryan Jackson would be perfect.

And yeah I would rather donate £5 to that than to the fans "pot" of monies that never seem to do anything.

DFCSS rep, executive or non executive, can surely only gain increased level of control by the society increasing its shareholding?

I think you might in the minority with your preparedness to donate toward a strangers' salary; a lot of people in Dundee struggle to live on what they earn without taking any of that and giving toward another's salary.
