Former Dundee skipper Kevin Thomson looks set join Alan Stubbs’ coaching staff as part of his Hibs deal.

The 31-year-old former Scotland international is on the verge of completing a move that will see him return to Easter Road for the third time in his career.

But this time he will be doing more than just playing, with a youth coaching position in the offing.

“His thoughts are still on playing but he’s also thinking a bit about coaching,†Stubbs told the Evening News.

“It’ll be a bit of both.

“It’s still very early days in his coaching but we’ll look to introduce him lower down in the academy and let him learn and gain experience.

“He is halfway through his A badge, that’s something he will complete next summer and that’s the next chapter for him.â€

Stubbs continued: “Kevin can bring a lot of experience to a youngish dressing room at such an important part of the season.

“Obviously, he is not in a position where he’s going to play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday – you only have to look at his record to see that’s not going to happen. But we have plenty of legs in the team.

“Kevin may not be able to get round the pitch as much as he used to, but he is a very talented player with an ability to keep the ball.â€

“Since he’s come in this week, he’s been training. Fitness-wise he’s available but he’s got to earn his way into the squad first.â€

He's gone.  It looks very much like he didn't want to continue playing for us but we'll probably never know the whole story.  Yesterdays man.  We need to draw a line under this and move on.

I agree Attilio, we certainly don't need another Thomson debate. I just think today's news appears to show that Hartley was misled so that Thomson could move to Hibs without compo. As you say though we don't know the full story and it's time to move on.
