Rory Loy Left Frustrated By Lack Of Game Time At Dundee

Rory Loy admits he’s finding life at Dundee frustrating this season.

Despite his seven goals in 12 starts, he’s been limited to bench duty recently due to the sizzling form of Kane Hemmings, as well as the magic of stand-in skipper Gary Harkins.

While the 27-year-old accepts that’s part and parcel of being a footballer, he’s still not happy that he’s found time on the park hard to come by.

“With the one up front it limits striking options. Trying to get in the team has been difficult,†said Loy, who could be in line to face his former club Falkirk in the Scottish Cup this evening.

“Kane has been on fire and Gary has been brilliant, too.

“Way back when the manager decided to drop one of us he decided to keep Kane ahead of me.

“I can’t argue, that has been the correct choice, given his recent form.

“I just have to be patient. There’s not a lot I can do.â€

Reflecting back on how good Loy looked in the opening two or three months of the season, it seems remarkable now to see him struggling to get into Paul Hartley’s starting XI.

Loy continued: “I just need to bide my time.

“The age I am at and the record I have for this club, I want to be playing games and helping win games.

“It’s very disappointing I’m not playing.

“If you look at my stats, they have been good when I have played. My goals-to-games is up there with the top strikers in the division.

“Seven goals in 12 starts isn’t bad by anyone’s standards.

“All I can do is keep training hard and keep giving 100% when I get on the park.

“It is frustrating just to get the dreg ends of every game.â€

He’s hopeful tonight’s Dens Park clash against the team where he spent two years and made last year’s cup final can spark his own season back into life.

“Football can change in a heartbeat,†he said.

“It wasn’t that long ago I was speaking to Kane when he was the one out of the team, on the bench.

“I want to play every game, but playing against your old club is extra special.

“I don’t want to be sitting on the bench for this one.

“I had a great two years there. It is a fantastic football club with lots of good people and a right good team also.

“We need to be on our game to get through.â€

Speaking about his former club, who are flying high in the Championship at present, Loy said: “When the draw was made, it wasn’t a tie I wanted to see because they’re a strong team — they’ve proved that this season.

“They’ve got a team that is Premiership standard. I think they would be comfortable in this league.

“They’ve got a good blend of young players, experienced players, technical players and powerful players.

“They’re a good side and we’ll need to be at our very best to beat them.

“I’d love to see them get promoted.

“Having been around the club for two years, I think it’s one that deserves to be in the top league, fan-base wise, stadium wise, there are a lot of things.â€

Loy has been finding time on the park hard to come by, that’s without the addition of an extra striking option to the squad.

Spaniard Arturo was picked up by gaffer Paul last week but Loy is not worried about the competition.

“He has signed another striker but that does not change my attitude one bit,†he said.

“No matter how many strikers we have, I will still give my all to get in the team.â€
