We had a shocking crowd on Friday night, even allowing for the awful conditions and the television coverage.

Just under 5000 in my opinion should set the alarm bells wringing, especially when the team are playing well and getting results.

The SPFL must grasp the fact that winter conditions, TV and the 12 team format is slowly strangling the game to death.

Finances must be extremely difficult and I do wonder how much longer Hemmings, Stewart and Bain can be retained at Dens, which is a great pity as we finally seem to be on the cusp of something pretty special.

The club said we had 4000 season ticket holders in their PR for the Dumbarton game. Saints travelling support was announced as 667 I think. This means there were only around 200-300 PATG punters in the home ends on Friday if season ticket numbers are correct.

It doesn't follow that every ST holder was at the game though.

I thought a baw hair short of 5K was OK for a friday night/pish weather/TV game combo. Not great and I doubt the club will be shouting from the rooftops but all things considered, acceptable. Then of course, I'm not a money man so don't have a scoob right enough.  :lol2:

Our football experience is still built around 3.00pm on a Saturday afternoon.  Kick off times like Friday night and Sunday lunchtime just throw things out of kilter.  I know three guys who would have been at the game that were intending to watch it in the Fort because that is what they do every Friday night.  I know one wee hater who would have went but was intending to stay at home in Stirling and watch it on TV.  I'm sure most of us could match stories like this.  As long as we are subservient to the TV money this will be the case.

I'm sorry chomp but despite it being live on the TV and played in bad weather, 4200 Dundee fans for a home game against St Johnstone in the top flight with a chance to go 4th or 5th in the league is an absolutely dreadful turn out.

If our neighbours who are massively adrift at the bottom played St Johnstone this Friday night on tv in the same conditions and only got 4870 including 600 away fans, we would be ripping them to shreds.

It was a terrible home turn out which has been a theme all season long after getting really promising home turn outs last season.

It's a negative in what's shaping up to be a really good season.

The debate has been well covered on here but we should have at the very least been matching last seasons home turn outs this season.

We have several hundred to a thousand plus Dundee fans who were watching us at Dens last season who aren't this season. Not good.

If you're alluding to the concession ticket price hike then we have lost some bums on seats. From the clubs point of view that's only one barometer, if (I've no idea) the ticket revenue is the same then they might not be quite so concerned by the lower crowd numbers. If the numbers aren't stacking up for the club they'll have to tweak the figures for next season, that's on them but what constitutes a "dreadful turnout" is open to opinion, ours differ.
