Wighton / Dabs / Admin

Mid Dee

Apologies if this is old news, due to family crisis i've not had time to log in for a few weeks.

My mate, who's son is good friends with one of our directors told me this morning that Wighton has told the club he will not be signing a new contract when his deal runs out.

Dundee's game against Dumbarton was going to get played before Utd v Motherwell but Dundee agreed to Utds request to allow them to play first ONLY if Utd stumped up the ticket money from new years derby that they were due us.

Stephen Thompson is seriously considering putting Utd in admin this season to ensure they don't start new season with minus points.

once again sorry if this is old news and even sorrier if it turns out to be keech   :lol2:

You made a hit with Arturo and seemed to be the first mention of it in mid December so you're viewed as reliable for me!

Re Wighton, his deal seems to run out next summer (it's concerning how time sneaks up on us) so I imagine it's a case of him stating that to try and force a move in the summer. Think we need to try and convince him of his value here and tell him that we won't be selling him as time being a healer is the best shot we've got.

Heard stories like that with United before but a bit skeptical that it'd end in admin unless there is some sort of debt that hasn't been mentioned yet. Stephen Thompson always comes across as pretty grim about their prospects but when they have 12 players out of contract and their liabilities seem to be to a group of friends to the club (who'd know that the best way of getting their money back is to not cripple them), I'd imagine that they'd be able to cut the budget pretty substantially in the summer. Maybe something in that though if the friendly investors aren't as friendly as they've been made out to be.

The fact that the sticklebrick has been put up as security against the loan from one of the 'friendly investors' suggests to me that they were either missing payment deadlines or showing themselves to be unreliable to the guy. The security agreement clearly states that if the filth breach any of the terms laid out, the guy can lock them out of the dump.

Heard that these investors are running out of patience, the wolves are at the door.

Would be disappointing if Wighton refused to sign a new deal but that's up to him. We'd need to just accept it and move on. Thankfully we're a top tier club now able to attract quality players so it wouldn't be a disaster if we lost him.

Wouldnt say "quality" cobra , the good signings we`ve made are young lads with fantastic potential ie - Stewart , Hemmings and Bain - some work like the 3 mentioned , some dont.

We havent signed a player in a long long time who you could say was quality (not that im unrealistic enough to think we should)

I would disagree also that i think it would be a disaster re losing Wighton.

I think if what your saying is true then i think it would be down to PH bringing in Arturo , i think Wighton would be thinking im further down the pecking order.

Wighton has a way to go but he has such natural ability that it would be a crying shame for him not to develop at DFC then be sold for a good fee.

PH doesnt seem to interested in Kerr and Wighton which i find rather dissapointing as i think both have potential to be week in week out starters - esp Kerr at current present

CC, I'd say that the likes of Hemmings, Loy, Harkins, Stewart, Bain and McGowan are quality players compared to what we've watched over the last decade or so.

Robertson leaving on a free to go to the dabs was a disaster because we had no chance of replacing him. Losing Wighton wouldn't affect our team at all just now. The downside to losing Wighton is really the fact that he's got so much potential to be a future star for Dundee and maybe boost the club's finances by being sold for a £1m+ further down the line.

Agree that bringing in Arturo won't have done our chances of keeping Wighton any good.

If it were up to me I'd have Kerr and Wighton more involved. For whatever reason, Hartley prefers using guys he's brought in rather than players who've come through our youth set-up.

This is just a personal view, but leading up to his time recently at Raith, I think CW was very much on the radar.

During his time there, it seemed his progress & potential kinda came to a halt... and he dropped out of the eye

of potential buyers (imo) Now since coming back to Dens, I think he is showing again his old spark and I think,

buyers will start to show interest. My view is he is still a young lad with much to offer. Hold on to him PH/DFC :)

He's only played about 10 minutes.. not sure how the old spark can be back?
