Kane Hemmings Nationality?

Just a quick question but been thinking that if Hemmings were Scottish, he'd actually be in with a decent chance of making the Scotland squad as he's of the age where he's still got room to grow and may end up moving to a higher level.

Has it ever been discussed if he has any Scottish connections? Probably pretty unlikely but just wondered if anyone knew anything. We've had quite a few players from down south who have ended up conveniently finding a Scottish granny and it's been on my mind all day.

I really think Stewart and Bain will play for Scotland next month.

Strachan is picking two squads for the next two games and he has hinted that it will be all change with this one with players he hasn't seen before so think there is a shot of it happening. I agree that he's maybe just a couple of years too old and don't think he's going to improve much more but I suppose there is always the chance of him going to the Championship next season and him improving in a way we don't expect.

Bain is nailed on as their aren't really any youngish 'keepers around so I think he'll get his shot.

Thought more about Hemmings and realised that the SFA would have known him as a youth at Rangers and if there was any prospect of him playing for Scotland, they would have probably been on to it when he was a bit younger. Never know with the SFA though!

The rule now seems to be that you have to have 5 years of education up to the age of 18 and unfortunately, he arrived at Rangers at the age of 16 so only has 2 years.

In theory, the SFA could actually call him up and he could play without any eligibility problem as the rule just states:

He has lived continuously on the territory of the relevant Association for at least two years

Which he has done and we also have the same nationality (i.e. UK passports) so there is nothing to stop players getting called up but the home nations have a gentleman's agreement which seems to be made to stop situations becoming confusing.

We should just make up some fake records to show his granny was born in Berwick. I honestly think that you could falsify something like this with enough effort.

does a GB passport mean you are English? wHen John Barnes arrived in GB could he not have chosen his country as he was a British citizen? Or did the FA assume they had first pick of immigrants???

You're right, technically John Barnes could have played for any of the home nations because he was born abroad (as was I). Kane Hemmings was born in England so can play for them or go with the parents/grandparents thing. Whether that's right and fair is a different issue but unless there's a Scottish granny somewhere then we're pooped.
