How To Improve Scottish Football

Summer football

Move junior football to Sunday

Bring beer back into stadiums

All would increase crowds/finances/standard

We'd get a better TV deal too.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure bringing beer back will improve the game as such and I'd be surprised if it encouraged more attendance to be honest. Saying that it does grind my gears that football is treated so differently from other sports/activities in this regard. I've moaned about it before on here but if the Police and stewards stepped up and were more proactive about their roles then it wouldn't be an issue, I see the anti drinking stance by the Police as making their job easier more than anything and it maybe ties in with the recent report by the police about organised casuals. "Look, football fans are bad, honest" I'm not saying there aren't fuds going to games and there's plenty wannabe's dressing the part but trouble is very rare.

If the Police and stewards stopped drunk people coming into the ground like they're supposed to then unless someone was on a mission to get bawbagged in the ground they're unlikely to cause any trouble but as we know this would maybe put them in an 'awkward' position that they can't be arsed to so we're back to 'football fan + alcohol = bad'.

I'm a season ticket holder who would be less likely to go to games in June and July.

Junior football moved? Decent idea, but I don't think that folk who choose playing/watching juniors over going to watch pro-football will be that bothered about attending. Yes, some, but not many.

Beer in stadiums doesn't appeal to me at all. Not a big drinker and can't be arsed with folks looking to get tanked (and you know some would).

Other than juniors, where I have no interest anyway, turn offs for me.

I genuinely think people overplay what will "improve" our game. I don't think there are hordes of folk sitting at home on a January afternoon, thinking, you know, if it was 10 degrees warmer, I'd spend £25 watching so-so football. As for the TV deals, doubtless better negotiators could get better deals, but if Scottish football was suddenly pulled from Sky/BT I don't think either would bat an eyelid. We get what we get and without the bigot brothers, we'd et nothing.

Sitting at a freezing rugby Park yesterday I was just thinking how much more pleasant would it be to be 10 degrees warmer. I think people would be more likely to go. Golf, family stuff etc could be for the morning /Sundays.

Even if it was an extra 100 fans per game it would be of benefit (regarding juniors).

If our season didn't clash with English football I think we'd get a better TV deal. We'd also get the fans for whom Dundee is their second team behind their English team. I know a lot of people like this.

The beer idea would be 4% alcohol and would bring in some decent revenue. Maybe have it banned at OF games.

As has been said before if we in fact did play in summer, would we seriously be contemplating changing to play in winter?  :happyno:

People talk about summer football but the weather yesterday at Killie was not overly different from the first game of the season. Maybe a couple degrees warmer but not much. Brining beer back into the grounds won't get more people coming but the extra revenue it would bring in by people having maybe a couple at most could be used to offset ticket prices being reduced which would bring more people to games

I think the novalty of having a drink at the game would wear off after a few games.

I think that everyone thinks it would be like at Palace ..great weather, celebrating being a dee, trip down to London etc etc but that was just a one off.

Also would being able to have a couple beers in the stands stop people from going to hospitality??

It was 7 degrees in Kilmarnock yesterday.

It was 16 degrees in Kilmarnock on the opening game of the season.

That's the difference between wearing comfortably wearing a tshirt or shirt and wearing 3 layers a hat and gloves and still being cold throughout and after.

Our summers might well always be disappointing in this country but they are considerably more comfortable than our winters.
