What Whisky For Over Christmas ?

I am not a huge whiusky drinker and only got into it a while back after having Jura - Diurachs Own and it is still my favourite. I have Lafraoig 12 years and a Glenfiddich 12 years but I am looking to get a couple of others, the Auchentoshen Three Wood, and Jura - Turas Mara were what I was going to choose.

Any suggests, anything that has a smoothness?

Living on a whisky island a friend who is a former distillery worker and is now sadly in the "high stand" told me that any single malt whisky aged over 15 years old is very smooth.

He further added that single malt whisky is far better if it has a bit of a bite to it and therefore it has to be aged 15 years old or younger.
