Kilmarnock’s Josh Magennis has made racism allegation after Hearts game.

 

According to Hearts "the alleged abusive remark related to the player being Irish. The player is from Northern Ireland. To clarify, this allegation does not involve the player’s colour, religion or sexuality."

 

If it wasn't about his race then it's not racism.

Fair enough Magennis doesn't understand that racism relates to race, but why are the police calling it racial abuse?

It means the headlines about Hearts fan racially abusing a black player are very misleading.

Any epithet proceeded by the word *Irish* doesn't make a comment racist, but a factual observation.

The word *irish* isn't enough to be classed as racist.

(In the same way that begin called Scots Gits or English w@nkers etc is not racist.)

It's not racist, but it's xenophobic. There's no reason to bring a persons nationality or heritage into an insult.
