Absolutely essential this season for safety in my opinion.

I know we sit 5th just now and have been in good form since boxing day but make no mistake about it, any team who is bottom 6 after the split can end up in the play off spot the way the league is this season.

Finish top 6 so we can relax and win the next derby to put another nail in their coffin and it's been a good league season after the massive disappointment in both cups which we promised to do well in publicly last summer.

Bottom 6 and it's another disappointment and a further battle for safety.

I have a feeling we're going to just miss out on top six. Motherwell, Partick and ICT are right behind us now and our next three fixtures (Hearts, United and County) look like games we'll struggle to win. We could find ourselves needing three points at Hamilton to sneak into the top six just before the split. I think it'll be touch and go.

Motherwell have Utd, ict, Celtic and Aberdeen - can't see them making top 6.

ICT have easiest run in.

7 points including win v Ross County should see us make it with possibly Saints or RC missing out.

Yesterday was horrendous but both players and supporters need to put it in the past to get us over the top 6 line.

Draw with hearts, beat dabs and county and were home and dry for top six as I think 7pts will be required. This Saturday against hearts will show if we can make it, a woeful performance and the team buckling again and we will be lucky to win any of the remaining games. Even if we lose on Saturday but put in a great performance will show we have the metal/bottle for the scrap ahead to get there.

I have no doubt we'll see a good performance against Hearts. We tend to respond really well to the horror shows (the 6-2, 6-0 and 5-2 spring to mind). Whether it'll be enough to win I'm not so sure.

Hearts have only lost four of their last 25 games. One was Celtic, one was Aberdeen, one was a derby and one was against the dabs with ten men. Three points is a big ask.

2-1 win for Aberdeen tonight at Partick is good for us. Partick had 3 games in hand on us two weeks ago and are now level on games while we sit 2 points clear of them. They play Celtic on Saturday lunchtime so ideally we will be 2 clear of them with a game in hand come kick off at Dens.

St Johnstone v Inverness tomorrow at McDiarmad. A draw in this one would be ideal.

OK, I'll tempt fate...

I don't think Killie look capable of catching us.

Not 100% sure we'll make top 6 with the way the fixtures work out, however I don't think that five out of the six behind us will be able to get past us.

Top 6 would make me feel much better about the season in a variety of ways, but right now I'm still looking up rather than down. Next few games will tell me if I'm right or not.

Killie will finish the season closer to the scum across the road than us and they sure as heck ain't catching us.
