After heavy defeats under Paul Hartley? I know we went on a good run after the Ross county and 6-2 games. Am i right in thinking we have went on decent runs after most heavy defeats and rarely have went on a slump?

We responded really well to arguably the three worst three defeats under Hartley... the 6-2, 6-0 and the 5-2. The two where we didn't see a positive reaction were the 4-1 and the 5-0.

Start of last season we went:

Dundee 1-4 United

United 1-0 Dundee

Ross County 2-1 Dundee

Aberdeen 3-2 Dundee

Motherwell 1-3 Dundee

Dundee 2-0 Hamilton

Killie 1-3 Dundee

Dundee 1-1 St Johnstone

before a narrow loss away to Celtic

Then at new years:

United 6-2 Dundee

Dundee 1-1 Ross County

Dundee 4-1 Motherwell

Aberdeen 3-3 Dundee

Dundee 1-0 Killie

St Mirren 1-2 Dundee

Dundee 1-1 Hamilton

then another loss to Celtic

This season:

Ross County 5-2 Dundee

Dundee 2-1 United

Partick 2-4 Dundee

then loss to Aberdeen and 8 unbeaten until Saturday

Even though we were in very good form until Saturday, really don't fancy going in to the derby on the back of another defeat on Saturday against Hearts such was the demoralising effect and manner of the Rangers result.

Got to get something out this game Saturday, even if just a fighting passionate performance in order to lift ourselves for the derby.

I think we are always vulnerable when we think we should win. It's a Scottish thing. Underdog mentality seems to suit us IF we get a hold in the game. Agree that this result against Rangers can only be regarded as something positive if we sort it out and go on a run of good results.

The change in playing personnel caused by the loss of McPake and Thomson seemed to provoke a positive response from the team. Let's hope this poor result has the same sort of response.

I am surprised to read PH is at a loss to explain the collapse. I would have hoped that he knew exactly what went wrong and that he will be taking steps to prevent a recurrence against Hearts who I would expect to adopt a similar game plan as was used by Rangers.

He maybe does have a good idea but doesn't want to put it in the papers, he keeps his cards close to his chest. Maybe, like a lot of us he doesn't like to put his hand up and say "my fault", guess we'll see on saturday if he changes anything.

Agree with this, keeps these kind of issues in-house and deals with them appropriately. Those who weren't up to scratch will know and hard work on the training ground will be at the top of the menu.

Think it was plainly obvious what went wrong!! We lost a goal after 15 seconds and it lifted rangers both on and off the park to another level while at the same time left our team in bewilderment and devoid of any confidence. Had Holt hoofed the ball forward into a wide area and we had settled into the game and been level after 15/20mins then Im pretty certain the outcome would have been different. Not saying we would have won, but it would have been a more competitive game which could have gone to the wire rather than being a damp squib!!

He's had too many of these hammerings now to convince me he knows what is going wrong.

He only needs to look at Robbie Nielson over the weekend to realise what an easy ride he is getting at Dens. Nielson has done a better job as well.

PH prob isnt doing as bad as some say (even me at times)

But he`s def not doing great as some say either.

My biggest issue is that i see little improvment from last season and we`ve "supposidly" signed better replacments.
