Absolutely baffling signing.

my only thought is that PH genuinely thought Hemmings or Stewart were offski.

My instinct is that he's preparing for attacking departures in the summer and this is a trial period of sorts.

If that's the case, it can still go well. Just not really had a chance apart from a few minutes here and there so far. There will definitely be a time where injury forces him to start a couple so we will see him at some point.

Maybe but I'd say that:

  • It won't be £1500 per week. This was the money he was reported to be on in Spain but he's still being paid by his parent club so we will be paying somewhere between 50-100%
  • We have freed many players and look like we are running under budget this season (indications are that this signing didn't come at the expense of others)
  • Although it's maybe a trial of sorts, he still comes in and makes up the numbers
  • His game time will not come at the expense of Wighton and vice versa as they play very different roles
  • It'd be a much much bigger waste if we were to sign this guy on a 2-3 year deal in summer on very good money and for him to come in and not adapt to the country or not be very good or whatever

If this guy trains well and looks the part in training, we could have a ready made replacement who knows the club and has been eased in to Scottish Football for 6 months. This guy comes from a good level and it isn't like we've signed some amateur who we are trying to train up from nothing. We're not going to remember much about this or feel much pain if it doesn't work out.

EDIT: I'd also add that he contributed well in the last 20 minutes against Motherwell and his persistence in the air (keeping a ball in play and beating a couple of players), lead in part to the penalty we won in which we won a point. His aerial ability does offer something different and it's pretty obvious within seconds of being on the park that he's got that side of things in him so it's just up to seeing if other parts of his game are up to it.

Was told he`s on £1,500 funny enough at the weekend.

Bonkers decision by PH , like i say he`s a budget that clubs higher than us can only dream off on a plus side it shows the owners are all for backing the manager 100%

When Arturo was signed my first thought was for Wighton.

There was no need for this signing given that there where other positions thant needed improving.

PH must have a good reason for this signing/trial even though it appears baffling?

The guy is trying to fit into a different environment/country, lets give him a decent chance to see if he can make a contribution, or not.

But there was no chance Arturo was going to play when we`ve Hemmings on fire , Stewart , Loy can also play up front.

It was a madness signing.

A signing for the sake of a signing.

If we've money in the budget I'd rather we targeted our glaring deficiencies.

Strikers are not one of them. So much so that we're playing 2 in midfield.

A striker was the last thing in the world we needed in January.

We're playing one at left midfield the last half dozen games to keep him happy in front of our weakest player on the park.

If we had signed a natural left mid and a centre mid with a bit of steel in January, we might have had a chance on Saturday.

We sit 5th but could easily slip down a number of places such is the tightness of the league and teams played different amount of games.

Left midfielder and strong centre mid in January instead of a another forward and we could have been sitting in the semis and in an even stronger position in the league.

Playing Loy left midfield and having Ross/McGowan cover about 80 yards of grass themselves in an empty midfield simply isn't good enough.

Hartley didn't sign any players in January that allow us to be flexible enough with our formation. A simple 4 4 2 would have been enough to prevent us getting destroyed down both sides on Saturday, but we don't have the midfielders to do it. All of which makes the Arturo signing seen even more bizarre, because he really doesn't have the players to allow us to play 2 forwards.
