Dundee Derby: Nicky Low Gives Paul Hartley Selection Headache

Nicky Low has given Paul Hartley a potential selection headache ahead of this weekend’s City of Discovery derby.

The midfielder went some way to furthering his claims for a starting berth in Sunday’s Tannadice clash by putting in a match-winning performance and grabbing a two-goal salvo as the club’s Development League side ran out 4-2 winners over Rangers.

Low has started just once since mid-January, the creditable 0-0 draw at Celtic Park, and again was an unused sub for last weekend’s Hearts defeat.

But he could be in line for a return as manager Paul Hartley again considers personnel changes for the clash with city rivals Dundee United, in what is the most significant derby in more than a decade.

And he did his cause no harm by netting two impressive strikes at Dumbarton last night.

His and Dundee’s first was a low strike from 20 yards which beat keeper Robbie McCrorie but the second — to make it 3-0 — was even better. Three minutes into the second period he let fly from all of 30 yards, giving McCrorie in the Light Blues goal absolutely no chance.

Also on the scoresheet on the night was Spanish striker Arturo, as well as youngster Ryan Gemmell.

Meanwhile, Dundee have been dealt a disciplinary blow with news skipper Gary Harkins will serve a one-game suspension.

The one match ban — which was triggered after Harkins’ booking in the Jambos clash — will see him miss the Dark Blues’ Premiership meeting with Ross County on April 2.

Harkins will be available to captain the side against the Tangerines this weekend, though.

Elsewhere, on the injury front, the gaffer has almost a full squad to choose from for the match with the relegation-threatened Terrors.

The only absentee is central defender Julen Etxabeguren, who has started just twice this calender year. The Spaniard remains out with a shoulder problem.

Dinnae envy PH's job  o' picking the right team for this game. But I do think a place should be made for Nicky Low.

Not only is he hitting form at the right time, He was in classic fom in the last Derby..... & Nicky Low vs Guy Demel.

(Hope eh've got his name right)  Anyway, theBig Frenchman didnae ken whiat hit him.  NL at his tenacious best :lol2:

And that kind of attitude from him and all the Dundee Players on the day is exactly what we need.   "C'mon the Dee"
