Motherwell's Fan Ownership

Recommended Posts

Will be interesting to see how Motherwell do now they are completely reliant on their fans. We know all too well that it is not always the Utopia that it is sometimes made out to be in the media.

Personally I think they will be serious contenders for relegation next season with that model unless they have some quality youth players coming through.

It's the business plan that's important. Have read that they need 2000 fans paying off the debt due to Les hutchison and that's just the debt. Hearts and Rangers have got similar ways of trying to encourage money from supporters who don't have a rational reason for buying a season ticket.

This is something that we should do but our experience of fan based ownership was that it was very difficult to work without substantial working capital and a profit making business plan. The Dee Promotions Lottery is a good vehicle to give money to the club for spending on the youth set up, and hopefully DFCSS will find a good way of encouraging Dee's to make a financial contribution to the club, via their organisation .

I hope you don't mind BCram, I put a URL link into that internet page.

I've been very impressed with how Hearts have gone about their Foundation of Hearts, there's a lot of guys chipping in every month, its an example to the rest of us.

Thanks Chomp. I don't use links very often and can't remember how to do them. Agree about the Hearts figures. Think this is something we should be looking at. Not all Dee's are able to justify buying a season ticket but they might we willing to pay a small amount every month. The trouble is who does the work to collect it and, if it isn't managed by the club for the benefit of the club to spend as they see fit, you get into the debates we've had before about buying back the ground etc etc.

Think that Motherwell might just have shot themselves in the foot with this change in ownership, at this time of the season. Things will not be steady and next season contracts will all be in the minds of their team. i would not imagine they have decided that they no longer face the threat of being involved in the play offs and  I don't see how it can do anything other than destabilise them. I hope not, but there is a world of difference from having a financial strength in the form of one man who says what he wants and can afford to pay for it if things go wrong, and a group of passionate supporters who don't have access to additional cash.

In case you fancy having a crack, its nice and easy. The URL for where you're looking is at the top of the toolbar line, the 'wwwblah.blah.blah/what-evs' bit,, if you copy it and then open your 'post reply' as you would normally to post then click on the wee chain icon (2nd row down, 9th icon in from the left) you'll get a box come up. If you paste the URL line in and then 'OK' it, that's you sorted.  :)
