Question On Youth Development & Academy?

Recommended Posts

From the outset, I will say I do know very little about (maybe nothing) about above.

So it is no more than a general observation as well as question for enlightenment.

When our US Freends were making initial overtures towards DFC, Youth was key.

Since then (imo) it seemed to die a death. Are things all happening behind scenes?

Am I stirring things up ? Maybe. Overall the US guys seem to be making progress.

But  communication (on issue above & generally) seems to me to be non-existent.

(Some times eh get fed up & frustrated) This may be one o' these days.  Onwards.

Aye a constant thorny issue with comms based on coaches leaving and then delays in employing a new one (now being left till end of season - saving money?)

Most news is fan sourced from "a boy that kens a boy that kens a boy with a laddie"

It would be good if the club could just get it fixed as stability is crucial in this area IMO and any would be kids/parents I am sure would prefer a settled well run and supportive set up.

Or is it already???

It would be refreshing if there was more communication from the Club, on above and other related issues.

Would not expect DFC to be revealing all about big future plans that may or may not happen. But I think

it makes good sense to keep fans (customers) in touch. Most of us, are adult & experienced enough, to

know if finance is not readily available, then it is a case of prioritising & some plans will get put on hold &

maybe even shelved. Lots of us, I think, got enthused & excited with the mention of Youth Academy etc.

Personally I would prefer more direct honesty here from the Club, as to future plans or even now non-plans.

I think on every level there is, as Billy' says, too much of ." Most news is fan sourced from "a boy that kens

a boy that kens a boy with a laddie"  We are all big lads & lasses now, we can handle DFC's good/bad news.

Publicity, promotion, communication, advertising &  organising, is something I thought US Guys excelled in.

Transparency. Tim Keyes & John Nelms talked the talk when they were selling their plans for DFC. Some of that has came to fruition but other key plans/areas have been a bit of a damp squib. The youth side of things is where I feel they have failed to deliver and the lack of pretty much any PR re this area is a wee bit of a worry imo. Some politics in and around the Dundee area has given us a problem attracting qualified coaches and that's been a problem, with a bit of mud slinging going on. As far as scouting young talent goes I don't think we're the best at that, Utd seem to be far more committed in this area. Cammy & Craig Wighton are maybe papering over the cracks just now and it could  be that their 1st team inclusion is buying us a bit of time to get things right behind the scenes.

It's pretty certain that there are problem with the youth set-up but we are work in progress in pretty much all areas of the Club so maybe our owners deserve a bit of slack to come up with the goods, after all Rome wasn't built in a day.

I'm not too sure about that bit unfortunately Gedee, we have plenty meltdowns on here and some of it is over rumours put about by "a boy than kens a boy that kens a boy with a laddie". When it comes to the financials I'm pretty sure the club won't be putting out there that they're a 'bit skint' to do something, it might send the wrong message to other clubs looking for a bargain, potential investors and us chimps who would go into overdrive if there was a sniff of concern about money.   The club are pretty much damned whatever they do, I guess their best (least worst) option is dignified silence on some issues. Saying that, I do think there's some things that they should have been more open about although I'll not break it down to restart old debates that have been done to death.  :P

Like you I know next to nothing about the development set up but I do like to read the threads on the 'yoofs' from the guys that go, keep the updates coming guys.

Edited because I spelt come instead of some which would have put a completely different twist to the post.  :o  :lol2:

A friend of mines young lad has just left united to join dundee, says its a shambles at tannadice and a lot better at dens.He is also at st johns in that elite programme

This is the sort of news that should give our supporters a boost. The youth programme is something that we want to see build, and a bit of positive news like this is very welcome.

and its from a boy that kens a boy who has a laddie! Still better that than nowt - a wee update from the club would not go amiss especially as the DFC lottery appears to fund youth and we as fans buy the tickets.

United's has been a shambles for a while at various age groups.

Always think too many Dees automatically assume everything is rosy across there and the opposite at Dens.

Seen a good few Dee scouts out n about since the 7s season started recently.
