If/when They Go Down...

HK Blues

Looking to the future, the demise of Utd would deprive us of at least 3 Derbies and the resultant income and the interest/excitement they bring. So be it.

However, there must be many more positives. We are probably still playing catch up with them after our first relagation from Premier League 40 years ago after all!

So, putting bragging rights aside, what else would we gain by being the official No.1 club in the city?

I'll throw a few of low hanging fruits in (pardon the pun 😀) -

We'd be more attractive to local talent so should be able to get first dibs on youngsters in the area.

Whilst it wouldn't happen overnight, we would be in a better position to attract fans who were not 100% onboard with either team previously.

We should be more marketable as the only top-flight club in the city, and by a country mile the biggest in the area, so be more attractive for sponsors.

Others?

The return of the Zombies almost negates the derby income issue - they will pack out the same allocation in their first season back.

Obviously no-one wants them up here but they will be and their vile supporters will fill the cash void made by our derby rivals.

If I'm completely honest, if by some miracle Utd survive and keep Mixu as gaffer they won't come close to selling out their Dens allocation next season. Fairweather fans at their very best and there is strong feeling against Mixu and Thompson - perfect excuse not to go and wach that absolute dross every 2nd week.

We've seen it already this season with large spaces in the George Foz stand (almost a full section near the shed) after watching their team fail to win a derby this season.

If we end up bottom 6 and they are confirmed as relegated by the time we play them there will be a shocking turnout from them at the final derby of the season.

It might mean fewer annoying people asking if it's Dundee or United you support, as their profile diminishes. We can say the PREMIER team if they do. No, we don't play in tangerine.

It will be tremendous when it happens, chance of a lifetime to see them down and us up. Don't blow it United (and stay up)!

In response to above, can't see them escaping the axe. Play-offs at a push. They had no quality on Sunday, even Spittal looked ordinary. Is there meant to be someone else good?

Thought this pre-Sunday but after watching them and how their 'manager' sets them up I think they're doomed. He is floundering badly.

I'm more confident now than pre-Sunday too, but Killie still leaving me nervous.

On the plus side, Killie should have the home advantage v Utd as they've been up there twice. Not guaranteed 2 H/2A but Killie would have strong case to argue. I believe the importance of the game is considered when an imbalance occurs. Feckin hope so!

I have this feeling - similar to the one I had on Sunday when Ross failed to pick out Kane that Utd would go on to equalize....

I think most Dees expected them to equalise. We couldn't stop balls into the box and we couldn't stop them winning headers so eventually Mitchell was going to concede.

They won't stay up though. They're doomed.

Yes...and no ref. Rangers cash compensating.

Rangers will come up regardless, so that income is safe wether Utd go down or not. So the Derby money is still lost.
