But, I cant help but think that Greg Stewart is better suited at that role and should keep that position behind the striker/s

Am I being harsh? Should Hartley move GS back out to wide right to accommodate GGH, or does GGH have to settle for place on the bench or somewhere else in midfield (Replacing who ?)

With the exception of maybe McGinn in for one of the back three then I wouldnt change any of the outfield players for the game against Celtic. If that means Harkins on the bench then thats what it is.

I would agree that I don't think he should come in against Celtic due to how well the forwards played on Saturday but he is still a very important player for us

I'd love to see him get a run at the former position with Kerr at RM - dunno where that leaves GGH

We delivered on Saturday because the team were fired up in a must-win fixture. I think it would have been a similar result if Harkins started.

Before the weekend all our outstanding attacking displays involved Harkins so I wouldn't rush to the conclusion that we're better off without him.

I'm not saying are we better off without him, I'm asking if we are better off with Stewart in that role.

I'd agree that Saturday doesn't prove we are a better team without Harkins-if he'd been playing we might have won even more convincingly.

But it does show that his presence is not critical to our performance - that must be a good thing.

For me Stewart plays in the role he adopted on Saturday. Although Harkins has been excellent for us this season at times Stewart on his day like Saturday is absolute quality. Played the similar role v Killie on the opening day (when Harkins played further back) and again was outstanding. To get the best out of him we need to play him where he is most effective. I also feel we have more cover with Cammy and Holt out wide. Just my opinion though.

Fair enough but I think Harkins is only effective in behind the strikers. Stewart can damage teams running towards goal from any position.

I would have harkins on the bench. It does seem harsh but after scoring 5 on Saturday I wouldn't change anything apart from McGinn and Bain coming back in. I would say that is Stewart's best position behind the strikers

To me we've only had 4 or 5 games where we've had "outstanding attacking displays" which I thinkis where the problem lies. It's the constant tough games we win by the odd goal that defines where a team finishes in the league. The Ross Co and Celtic away games were our 2 best performances in a long time, both achieved without GH. I think, personally, the last time he had a really good game was Partick away, which was mid January. IMO of course.
