Dabs Financial Situation...

Recommended Posts

Interesting Read!

VERY stats heavy!

(best part of commentary...)

"As is stands, relegation is looking very probable for Dundee United. Steven Thompson has stated that financial consequences of relegation would be grave. As he told BBC in January: "We've got an infrastructure at this club, it's for a Premiership club. If you're not in the Premiership, you have to cut your cloth accordingly and it'd be tough, there's no doubt it'd be tough.†

That much is obvious, turnover would decline substantially, successful player trading would also be much more difficult, making it very hard for the club to amortise it´s debts. Making an effort to bounce back to Premiership would be a difficult task, indeed.

Which is exactly why it seems so sad that the club has put themselves in this kind of position. They way the club has been run recently, it was always only a matter of time until relegation became a distinct possibility. Mathematically it is still possible to survive, even if escaping relegation now would be a historical feat. It would be sad to see such a traditional club being relegated, but if it does happen, United only have themselves to blame."

Wonder what implications this will have on the future there. It seems she is keeping shares but just not serving on the board.

Rumours I've heard:

  • Thompson is away but the potential of Andy Robertson leaving Hull with a sell on clause (rumoured to be 15% profit which could be £2-4 million based on the money discussed) means he will wait until any potential deal is done before severing ties
  • The creditors group that Thompson paraded a couple of years back are not happy. Thompson family loans are being paid back (with a good amount of interest) and their contribution is being neglected. They want to force the Thompson's out. Admin maybe an option to do that if he hangs around.
  • Lorry company owner (Norman Jamieson) is keen on buying

It's fun when it's not us creating a bit of drama! Hopefully continues well into the summer so their preparations for next season are destroyed.

Rumours going around the city is that the Dabs will be hitting admin very soon. Seems the other directors are trying to force an admin in the hope of getting their cash back and to get the Thompson's out of the club. There is apparently a buyer waiting in the wings, but are waiting to see what pans out.

£1.6 million mortgage on Tannadice is something that has been said a lot too.

Am a bit skeptical they will go into admin (I can't really imagine this being the most financially beneficial scenario for everyone involved) but it sounds like anything can really happen now.

I was under the impression that Dundee UTD no longer owned their own stadium as it was given to another director as a repayment on a loan? If true they can no longer use this to sell to pay off their debts.

From what I am hearing is that a lot of the shareholders are not happy with the direction that the Dabs are heading and will force an admin to get rid of the Thompson's once and for all. Personally I would like the status quo to stay the same, as it is providing a lot of comedy gold at the moment!
