Definitely!!! Formation had a lot to do with the stick Holt and McGinn have taken this season, since it's changed both have shown they are more than capable of playing for a top six. McGinn in particular has really stepped up, he'll be a big loss if he leaves.

O'dea playing on the left of the back 3 ,means Holt can drive forward, knowing he has good cover behind him.

Been excellent since this change was made.

Ghadz did not have the intelligence to play this role and his positioning made the left side of defence look bad.

Hopefully,Mcginn will be back soon,as a back 3 of Mcginn,Julen and O'dea, with Kerr and Holt out wide has the potential to be a strong ,defensive unit.

I think you may be right re O'Dea on the left of a back three making a difference to Holt. There were a couple of games recently when McGowan was furious with Ghadzalov for not moving left to cover behind Holt, when he (Holt) had to get forward & wide with 2 opponents facing him. Holt was often left exposed & unable to commit to a tackle with no-one behind him.

From the hour of the County game I saw, Holt was more effective, more assured in attacking & getting into County's box & doing what we've been poor at, ie winning headers in the opponent's box. Kerr doing the same on the right, with Stewart given his "free" role to attack through the middle, definitely appears to be providing stronger support when we attack, and I think we're picking up more of the loose balls in midfield as a result of this pressure.

This is a good time for Hartley's perseverance with an often-criticised system to be paying off, and it would be great to see a strong end to this season, on the back of some good pre-split performances.

Another solid performance against a tricky opponent.finally seeing what some of us have all season that in the right formation he will be a good player.maybe some of the boys screaming at him and Ross every game might start to give it a rest.

Holt played well again. He's endured a torrid time in his first season in the top tier in Hartley's preferred system but he always give 100%. I'm convinced he'll come good and prove to be a good signing.

I think he's had a big 'ask' in stepping up, moving teams and being asked to play in a flat back 4 (as he was) so an unusual position. Just my take on the season but as we've got a 'developing' manager he's been playing round with the team, I think both Holt AND PH have come on leaps and bounds.

Don't rule out Konrad. He was excellent last night!

I agree that he was good last night but i'd be letting him go in the summer. He has games like last night but he is never really that consistent over a run of matches. If we want to improve i'd be looking for better than him.
