Cesare Maldini

Recommended Posts

53 years ago he was captain of the team that broke our hearts. We were on our way to Wembley to lift the European Cup when we ran unfortunately into a bent referee at the San Siro who in 45 minutes  contrived to deny us with the most outrageous refereeing display youll ever see.

Never been able to think kindly of AC Milan since then but have to say that Maldini who died on Sunday at the age of 83 was a player and subsequently a manager and in both matches seemed to be one of the few Milan players who conducted himself with dignity and sportsmanship.

An abiding memory at the final whistle at Dens is of the crowd invading the pitch.I was in the forefront with my mates and you could see the look of fear in the faces of the Milan players who feared the worst until they realised the hundreds possibly thousands swarming on the pitch from all directions were just kids letting off steam.
