I'm less bothered about picking up points than retaining or increasing the gap to 11th place.

I actually think we had a decent weekend overall just past because another week goes by with none of the bottom three gaining on us.

Avoiding defeat to St Mirren is very important for our league status. Harkins should be well up for that one. Avoiding defeat to the dayglo mob is important because we want to send them back to east Angus greeting.

Still not daring to look up the table Cobra? Probably a sensible view..

For me, the next four games during this Xmas / New year period are crucial and will go a long way to defining where we are come the end of the season.

At the start of the season I would have taken survival but taking into consideration where we are now, some of the results we've had and the way we've played (at times!), I would be disappointed to end the season anywhere near the bottom two places.

Nothing matters to me right now other than avoiding relegation Boba Fett. If I can enjoy the luxury of chasing a top six place and a trip to Hampden further down the line then great but right now our challenge is to secure tenth or better. If I was a neutral I'd probably say Dundee are already looking safe, but then the same would be said about Hibs 12 months ago.

Things will be clearer in the next couple of weeks as the bottom three meet, with Motherwell playing Ross County & St Mirren.

Need to grab some points though to increase the gap.

Although it is mighty painful for maist o' us when DFC lose all ponts in a game (still no, got ower the result on seterday) when my mind returns to some kind of sanity, I am more than happy to see the progress our club has made this season, and I know I will be absolutely delighted if DFC are clear of the battle to survive at the end of the season.

In theory, all that seems absolutely right ....... until the whistle goes to start the next game, then all the tension starts all over again, as the rational thinking fades into the background.

At the moment we are keeping a safe space between oorselves and clubs nearer the bottom ..... and tht's good.

I'm looking at the end of January as a telling point for where we might finish. In January we have seven games in total - so on top of them at the sh*t tip we've got Ross County, Motherwell, Kilmarnock and Hamilton at Dens as well as St. Mirren and Aberdeen away. A tough month but mostly home games against what is likely to be bottom six opposition.

If we can pull 15 or more points from the ten games between now and the end of January we'd be on 35 points going into February with a good skelp of points still to played for. Surely 15 is achievable?

40 points should be enough for the season's main aim of survival, particularly if two of the current bottom three clubs continue to struggle the way they have been. and any more will be a bonus. Surely we'd pick up more than five between February and end of the season?

If only it was that simple though.
