The Us Celtic Game

Brilliant point against Celtic on Tuesday which has turned out to be a vital point to keep getting top 6 in our own hands. Win against Hamilton and we're top 6 with a great chance of finishing 4th (and possibility of Europe too).

But this got me thinking about our "home" Celtic game being planned for the US next season. If we were in the same position with two games needing 4 points and had to play Celtic in the US one week with Hamilton away the next, would we have nearly as much of a chance of getting top 6?

Personally I think we would really struggle to get any points against Celtic. Their players would be much more used to that sort of occasion than ours and it would effectively be like a Celtic home game. With all the travelling involved I also would not be as confident of picking up 3 points against Hamilton the following game.

On that basis playing in the US for a league game for the sake of a few quid is a non starter for me. Not sure what we would stand to make from that game but from that figure you would need to deduct the 9k supporters money you would have got from the game being at dens and less league prize money from potentially finishing in a lower place in the league.

I genuinely keep thinking this was just a dream I had. Totally surreal story.

I hope so but thought it had maybe just gone quiet until we were guaranteed of staying up.

Could just be this I suppose.

Would like to see what the arrangements for this fixture actually are if it happens (to see the financial incentive and how well organised it could be). It's been mentioned before that the owners had an ambition when they arrived here to get us in the states for a pre-season. Celtic generally go over to the States too and I wonder if this was an attempt to gauge interest for a fixture of any sort (not necessarily a league game).

The big benefit I could see playing over there is that we'll get bus loads of Americans visiting the Derry just for the chance to see Paul McGowan play in person. His loss to the fixture (due to maybe not getting a visa waiver because of his criminal charges) would leave them hungry and unfulfilled.

American owners wanted to play a league match in America v the biggest club in Scotland that UEFA were never going to allow to happen.

A publicity stunt or am I being cynical?

A pre season match would still be a money spinner if the tickets were split.

Even half of 20,000 tickets sold would be a nice wee boost over the summer when Dens isn't making any money.
