according to the official we only have 4 subs named for today which are Mitchell, Arturo, Kerr and Colquhoun. is that a mistake or is that our bench for today?

We have a lot of players injured and one player, Jules is suspended. Most on the young lads who make up the bench picked up injuries during the u20's game midweek.

I would've thought having some, even young, kids making up the numbers on the bench would be better than nothing. If nothing else surely they would benefit from the experience?.

Must be something to do with age as there are good enough kids that the club have high hopes for who could've sat on the bench, the laddie Smith for example although at 15yrs old that would maybe breach league rules.

There's definitely other fit kids though but maybe the club don't see them as having a future here?.

If we have to make three changes today we would only use the outfield players with first team experience so there's no real need to have youngsters turn up just to fill spaces.

They'd gain some experience though imo Cobra. Might even spur them on to make the squad more often.

I was surprised to read this story on BBC's website, before seeing it on anything Dundee-related.

In the Courier, Hartley says "I can't just put kids on the bench for the sake of it if they're not ready".

While that's a reasonable assessment for the manager to make, what would he have done if any player turned up too ill to play, or injured in the warmup? I realise it's hypothetical by now, as the game's started.

As with The Rev, I'd have still thought we'd take a few of the kids (& we're talking about at least half the Development squad) along on the team bus, in the dressing room, to give them that wee bit of experience of what to aspire to.

On the "positive" side, I guess Arturo has a fair chance of getting some game time today?...unless he's still not ready either

He's maybe waiting to break them in gently. 11th of May might not be the 'pressure pot' that can sometimes mentally affect young debutants! 😉
