News: Hartley Has No Case For The Defence

Dundee manager Paul Hartley made no excuses after watching his side throw away the lead to lose 2-1 at home to Inverness in the Scottish Premiership at Dens Park.

Greg Stewart gave Dundee the lead in the first half but goals after the interval from Billy McKay and Ryan Christie gave Caley Thistle victory at Dens Park.

Hartley said: "I thought we were going to get a point at least.

"We were excellent in the first half the way we stopped Inverness from playing. But we stopped off it a wee bit in the second half.

"We lost two poor goals. Inverness didn't work hard enough for the goals they got.

"We didn't defend the crosses and didn't stop runners coming into the box.

"The second-half performance compared to the first was night and day.

"But there are no excuses. We go to Hamilton next week for a really tough game so we have to lift ourselves for that.

"We will work hard in training this week to correct what we did wrong here."

Inverness manager John Hughes praised youngster Christie after he secured victory for the Highlanders with an 88th-minute winner.

Hughes said: "It's great for Ryan. I'm delighted for him. He's a lovely boy, a great worker and has been well coached.

"He's found himself in and out of the team this season. Now he's knocking on the door to get back in and that's all credit to him.

"We need to look after him but we know he's going to get quicker and stronger as time progresses.

"He's got a great touch, can dip the shoulder and score a goal - as he showed here."

Hughes added: "I always thought there was a winner coming, especially with what we had coming off the bench. The substitutes just swung it in our favour.

"I felt Dundee were the better team in the first half and we were the better team in the second half.

"I didn't think it was a great game but when we're not at our best we're still digging out results."

Losing poor goals

Defending crosses

2nd half compared to first was like night and day.

Three things that PH has quoted that we all probably agree with but imo they are not particular to the Inverness game- they have been a problem off and on for most of the season. Get it sorted.

Every time we give away a corner my heart is in my mouth.

Last week exposed our limitations as a squad, I know PH needs time to get this side equipped for the top division, hopefully we can bring in a couple of decent loans or signings in January.
