Site Upgrade and Changes

Hi Everyone,

Well after 22 hours and a ton of issues to overcome, finally got the forum back up and running at 10pm yesterday and we still haven't been able to do everything we wanted. You probably have noted there are a ton of changes, hopefully more you will like once you get used to them and they're not as daunting as you first think.

Firstly, there is no longer what we would call the mobile theme any more, the site is fully responsive to the device you are using, I-pad, Phone or Desktop. If you come across any issues please let us know.

The text editor has been simplified and should be a lot easier to use. With most things it is a case of type, drag and drop or upload. We only allow images to be uploaded, if you require other file types, please let us know. To insert video's from YouTube etc, just copy and paste the video URL into the editor, the rest will be done for you.

The Forum, what is still to be done?

We are still working on the forum, however as not to disrupt you too much, we will do this work during the wee hours at the quieter times. However, if we find a critical issue we will deal with that at the time, so expect some down time possibly.

1. Theme: The over all look of the forum isn't finished, I hope to have this done in the next few days.
2. Missing Items: This will be for two reasons, we're either moving things to the a main site (see below) or we just haven't found replacements for them or added them back as of yet.

If the theme looks quite not right, that's because its not finished yet and there are still a few issues to be resolved.

Where's All The Football?

It's not gone, we have split the football info and the community parts into two different area's, which will all be apparent before the new season starts. The forum is for the Dundee FC community and the main site will be about the club, the football and the stats and scores.

The reason we decided to do this was due to the lack of software for the forum for us to achieve the goal we were looking for. The problem with IP Board is while it is great for creating forums, it is lousy at creating content in a simplified fashion without having to do a ton of code first.

This forum isn't run by a big mega rich company with tons of finances behind it, just two brothers who do this for the love of the Dee and other supporters. We would ask that during this transition to be patient. We choose this time period to make changes (during the close season), as this is normally a quieter time for us. We hope to have everything back up before the friendlies start and before the new season starts.

This is a list of the changes to the forum and difference in features. This is not a full list, but the more important ones and the ones I remember. I will probably add to this as we go along.

• Mobile Theme: There is no mobile theme, don't go looking for it. We use a responsive theme that adapts to the device you are using i.e: Desktop, I-pad or phone.
• Forum Theme: The overall theme is not quite finished yet and the issues with it hopefully will be resolved in the next few days.
• Friends System: The friends system was changed to a 'followers system'. You can now choose to follow another members topics, posts, status updates etc. We choose not to convert your friends to followers because this would cause you to possibly get tons of emails and messages.
• New Content Tab: This has changed to the 'Activity Streams'. This is quite a powerful system if you like following the sites content. You can customise this to more or less anyway you like and you can create your own content 'streams'.
• Text/Post Editor: The old text editor has been replaced with a slimline version that is more mobile phone friendly. There is also no BBCode codes involved and basically is like any other text editor like Word. If you want to add videos or images etc, just copy and paste the URL into the editor or use the up-loader at the bottom of the text editor. Should be a lot more simplified now.
• Double Posts: Hopefully we have eliminated the dreaded double posts with this upgrade. (still having issues with this)

Update: Fixed a lot of paragraph spacing (double empty spaces) in posts due to the forum conversion.

I have just been advised that members profiles were accessible to guests, during the process of changing this I found out that a lot of the permission to a lot of the area's to the forum were changed and were giving people access to some area's that they shouldn't have been.

Hopefully this has been corrected now.
