And so far this season after losing three on the bounce, we won three on the bounce.

We all know what it would mean if that continues ;)

Exactly this. We are capable of taking points from most games and playing flowing attractive football but the reality is it ain't gonna happen every game. We are in a bad spell of form that we will come out of. Next week hopefully.

Gotta say its been an ok season so far....

Hamilton have had a fantastic season on a fraction of Hartleys budget....

If we are all being honest we are playing in the worst SPL of all time and for me 10th wouldnt be seen as some kind of fantastic success....

Really believe we have a proper manager for once albeit managing under a split BOD isnt easy.....

Lets hope they back him in January because we need fresh faces asap....

Said it before we have a strong first 11,but scrape below that and there aint much there

We've also not played the season with a natural left back and rarely seen our captain. Building a whole new team isn't easy and pretty much every player you sign is a gamble.

With the way we've done so far, I'm excited with what Hartley can do with this squad now that he's assessed them.

I don't think the Hamilton comparisons are that relevant tbh. They have had a squad which has mostly developed from the youth ranks and they clearly know each other a lot more.

Gordon, Hendrie, Devlin, Gillespie, Crawford, Longridge and Ryan are all 23 and younger and then you add Canning and Neil in there who have guided them through the last few seasons and you see that they actually have a pretty valuable squad. They have worked very hard to get to that point. You have to remember that they've kept the same squad for years and weren't assembled overnight. The board have had a lot of patience in Alex Neil. Wish we took a similar approach a long time ago but it's all in the past now.

In the summer, we had Wighton, Kerr and Boyle as our young performers and no other real assets. The squad has been filled with journeymen for the last few seasons and we've had no real consistency and are lucky enough to have produced Wighton and Kerr given our youth sides being hurt by administration. Although Hartley has a significantly higher budget, it's a massive challenge to spend that competently but he's come up with gems in Bain, Stewart, Konrad and McGinn who will hopefully play here for a few years to come and the experience of Clarkson and McPake who have had a strong influence so far.

I know you aren't meaning to criticise Hartley or anything like that but just felt like adding that.

I don't think there is a season where that statement hasn't been made. The thing is though, it doesn't actually mean anything. It can't be quantified in any agreeable ways so we just have to look in front of us and give it our all. I don't think we should be finishing below Motherwell, Ross County or St Mirren so that would probably be a disappointment now. Strength in depth will undoubtedly hurt us in our final standings though, hopefully a couple of January squad players will give us a boost.

Think the truth is somewhere in the middle. The last two results have been very disappointing and have shown that the squad is thin in certain areas. Also shows that some of Hartleys signings have been poor/very poor.

That said we are still in a decent position but we need to kick on. Also shows that players such as Stewart have been excellent signings.

We were missing McGowan and Thomson from midfield yesterday arguably our 2 best players. McGowan missing especially is a big loss his graft allows Harkins freedom to play.

Hartley took a chance yesterday and played Roberts and Boyle for their pace. It didn't work hopefully Wighton gets his chance next week and takes it.

The Manager cannot be faulted in playing Roberts, it's the fact that the youngster does not show much appetite for hard graft that's the problem.

Boyle is frustrating in as much as he makes the same mistake week after week, he rarely beats his man cleanly and his final ball is usually hopeless.

PH does not have a great many options, hopefully he can find a way to get us back on track.

Any SPL without Rangers Hearts and hibs will be the weakest SPL in history....not even up fir debate....

As for only playing whats in front of you that is true, but lets not kid ourselves that 10th should be some kind of incredible success.....

Hartley has been given a good budget and he has spent it well....just been unlucky with injuries to his better players....one or two quality signings will see us finish top 8 no problem

In terms of what? Ability?

Hibs got relegated because they were sh**e and have been for a long time and Hearts have spent years in the top flight and been mediocre (although they'd improve the league at the expense of St Mirren or Hamilton at the current moment). If all three were in the league in their current situation, it really wouldn't change things much with an improved Rangers occupying that space between 1st and 3rd and floating around there occasionally swapping with Celtic.

Even if Hearts, Hibs and Rangers are at their optimum, it's not really a guaranteed quality improvement. Aberdeen have had many sh**e years and United may decline.

It's quite subjective but I think the league is a lot more technically blessed than it has been for a while. Aberdeen, United, Inverness, Hamilton have gifted players and matches are more enjoyable to watch than they used to be.

The 2004-05 season when we got relegated was poorer IMO. Hibs (who did have some good players who went on to do well) finished in 3rd place on goal difference ahead of Aberdeen who had been playing sh**e hoofball relying on journeymen like Steven Craig, Jamie Winters, Scott Morrison, Gary Dempsey and Richie Byrne who all fell down the leagues and really weren't talented footballers. Below that there was a massive gap with the rest of the league bunched together apart from the bottom few places. Our team (that nearly pulled off survival) was that bad that it should have been a crime.

Now at least, for the most part, we have teams fielding young guys who are trying to play the right way and we are seeing a few of them make a step up. I think the quality is less concentrated than it once was but it's still there.
