McPake Out Til 2017

Apologies for linking to the S*n rag - but bad news for McPake.

Good man-management by PH, though, getting him involved with the coaching side of things and hopefully also getting some value from his wages.

O'Dea for captain now, surely?

DUNDEE captain James McPake has suffered a six-month setback in his recovery from a broken kneecap.

The 32-year-old centre-back had been targeting a return to action for the new season after sustaining the horror injury in the Dark Blues’ 2-1 Dundee Derby triumph back on January 2.

But now he’s been told by specialists that he’ll face a longer stretch on the sidelines, and has been told January 2017 is more realistic.

Dens Park boss Paul Hartley confirmed the blow to SunSport, but revealed McPake will take on additional coaching responsibilities until he’s in a position to play again.

Hartley, who made McPake skipper during his lay-off as a show of faith in his importance to the club on and off the pitch, said: “We’re probably looking to pencil James in for the start of the year now.

“It’s a disappointing but we just have to get our heads around it. That’s the timeframe and there’s not a chance that we’ll rush him back.

“The reassuring thing for me is that James is such a strong personality. He’s got that strong mentality, a good mind-set and he’s had setbacks in his career before. I have no worries for him.

“This will only make him stronger and he’ll be vital for us when he’s back playing again at the turn of the year.”

Dreadful stuff.

Don't wish to be negative but I don't think we will see him back in a Dundee top. Obviously, he's contracted for this season and Hartley is standing by him and giving him as much opportunity to come back and speaking well publicly but the odds aren't really on his side. Multiple long spells out in his career and different types of injuries. If he comes back to play, it'll be a great achievement but I'd be surprised if he was at this sort of level.

26 minutes ago, Billy Campbell's Ghost said:

why is this not in local rags?

Because we tell DCT nothing as all they print about us is bollox.

Never forget what the courier printed after the fat Turk bit McAllister about Dundee and us the fans.

Kennedy makes up stories constantly about our players and Duthie is so far up Thomsons ar** it's scary.

No surprise to me McPake won't be back and as I've said before doubt he will play again at Premier level. We should be grooming him to succeed Hartley.
