If a Dundee city club was to ever be formed merging the big team in the city with our small club neighbours, would you support the new team or who would look to a new Dundee FC being formed in the lower leagues?

Would give up supporting football. I support Dundee only although I occasionally go to Scotland games. Nothing gets close to watching the Dee though so I'd just call it a day and do something else on a Saturday.

It would depend on why the clubs had merged, I suppose. I don't think I could follow some oil tycoon's experiment like Man City or something. I occasionally go to Arbroath games and less so; Hibs. I could see myself following them more often but it would never be the same as supporting the Dee. Supporters make huge emotional investments in the club over the course of their lives and that's what makes following them so special, good times and bad.

Don't think there's any way I could just transfer that feeling to another club. Would probably lose interest in football.

Foregoing all history and tradition and with all things being equal,  if Dundee was a one team city, it would be a force capable of challenging for honours regularly in Scottish football.

Collectively the city of Dundee punches well above it's weight with people attending matches (in Scottish terms)

That said, it would be generations before the new team attracted a competitive amount of punters, if at all.

There's not a hope in hell I'd be lending my support but my three year old son (for example) may be tempted to go along in future years if they were doing well.

His Dad wouldn't be taking him though and that's the immediate issue.

If only we'd accepted Jim Mclean's application.....

What an odd, if you'll pardon me saying so, irrelevant question and one that's been covered over and over again.

Things haven't looked so positive at Dens in a long, long time so why we'd even need to contemplate this on any level I have no idea.

It would very much depend on the circumstances, if the 2 clubs decided to form one team then I suppose i would, I've compared it to the Scottish Regiments amalgamating in the past and they have a longer history than the football clubs and I'd suggest a lot more emotional involvement for a lot of their members. If they can get over it then I daresay I could. If it was a takeover then no, I wouldn't, unless it was us taking over 'them' but I'm sure 'they' would feel exactly the same so unlikely to want to get behind the new team either. If Dundee FC 'died' I'd still want to go and watch football, for myself it would Dunfermline as they're my local team although I watch Rosyth from time to time too. It would probably take a long time before I came a Dunfs 'supporter' because of my 'current affliction' but I go to watch football because I like football, Dundee are MY team but I've been to watch dozens of others over the years, even if we're not playing, mostly when working in England and unable to go to watch Dundee but I couldn't see me not going to watch games if Dundee weren't here.

I'll step back and don my tin hat......
