Playing devils advocate here, but perhaps PH isnt revealing the reasons behind this decision to ensure Gary has every chance of finding another club? Lets say hypothetically he had a bust up with Hartley and acted unprofessionally for example. If Hartley came out and slated him it would do him no favours in trying to secure a contract elsewhere. Remember the bomber/Rab situation? Did Bomber not state something along the lines of, I wouldnt recomend any club try sign him?

Just a thought.

There is a lot of heresay going on and until we (if we) ever find out what happened then I think its disrespectful to both of them to make any judgment. IF and this is a big IF it comes to pass that Hartley has acted this way simply to force him out the door to free up wages then I will be pretty disgusted to be honest. But until we find out further info its all speculation IMO.

Edit to say, a more recent example. I heard from a very good source that Hartley and Thomson had a big bust up at training a few days before he quit the club in January. Yet we heard Thomson talk of leaving due to "not being up to it anymore" etc etc Maybe it was the catalyst, maybe it was in reaction to Thomsons decision but with regards to GGH relevant all the same.

Devil's advocate here,

Like an unruly pupil in the classroom, rather than work hard with him to the detriment of others, sometimes they are removed so that the 'teacher' can give his undivided attention to those who want to learn.

This might be Harkins downfall where he believes that he is the strongest character and if Hartley bows to his requests or demands then he comes over as being weak.

No player is bigger than the club.

Sad end to his Dundee career but unfortunately may have to be done to keep a strong and focused team.

GGH has more ability than the rest of the midfielders PH has signed-GGH is the only one looking to go forward when he gets the ball - the others are all quite happy with a 5 yard sideway pass slowing the move down.

Harkins is good in the air ,strong on the ball and can hit the 50 yard pass not the 5 yard one- have you seen Ross or McGowan hit long passes out to the wing.

We will struggle this season without his ability.

If Dundee started playing like ICT and Saints I would stop going they are brutal and nothing but hammerthrowers.

So you would want to see your team win a trophy? Both these 'brutal' teams have picked up silverware recently and if we scraped 1 v 0 wins in every round I'd take that to see us lift the cup.

Dundee have always played football as long as I've watched them. Scottish football needs to take a look at itself with managers like Hughes, Wright etc stifling the game.

Winning a cup isn't the be all or end all for me.

Agree if that is true that he has to train with the kids, then that is shocking from Hartley.

Harkins is a big player and we will be the only ones missing out once he leaves. No creativity apart from Stewart left.

Does Hartley maybe fancy shedding the timber and putting the boots back on or something? Shocking way to treat Gary Harkins. It's no surprise we had our best spell once he got back in the starting 11 last season.

I'm sorry I might have to disagree with you there J, as I don't think we will miss that much because from the little  I've seen of him I think O'hara will turn out to be an equal replacement

O'hara was decent when he came on today but he is a defensive type player and will never replace the creativity that GGH brings to our side.

O'Hara certainly wasn't defensive when he came on today.

Defensive? Seriously?

First thing he did was win a defensive header in midfield, something we didn't do the whole first half. Next thing he nearly scored with a header. He looked for the ball, moved it forward and used it well. Great potential as a Dundee player.

A few rumours flying about inside the ground today about the fall out between PH/GGH, the most popular one being that Harkins told PH in front of the rest of the squad that he wasn't that impressed with the managers recent signings.   Or words to that effect. :o

Probably a story that's grown arms and legs and been passed down from somebody's best mates, wifes favourite taxi driver but there you go.
