I know there's been a lot of negativity since last week but I just want to get my opinion out before the season starts properly. I think we're going to struggle this season ( not taking last week into account). The manager imo hasnt yet sorted the problems we've had the last 2 seasons. We've been pretty dire defensively yet we still havent been able to bring a decent defender in, i thought o'hara was meant to be but our esteemed manager seems to want to play him midfield. The team still lacks height and strength and now PH wants rid of harkins we're lacking in creativity. To me Ph hasnt learnt from anything over the last 2 years and our performances towards the end of last season, apart from the doon derby, doesnt fill me with confidence.

Some people can't see past PH but im no fan and so far i havent seen much to change that, feel free to correct me and I hope im wrong but to me if you dont sort out your weaknesses how you going to improve? We were already strong in attack yet we bring in a player from non league holland yet we're crying out to strengthen the defence and midfield yet havent done so.Shoot me down if you want but last season overall was poor and I cant see this being any better if what we have now is our squad in what will be probably a much harder league.

I agree with you mate.

Throughout the season we kept crying out for Hartley to sort the defence and we were hopeful for a few big bruiser type players to make us stronger and who would offer us aggression.

It seems we've failed to do this yet again and if anything, we look weaker at the back.

Agree with the first two posts, we have not made if the team stronger from last season, really worry about the back four.

Decent defenders are thin on the ground, especially with our budget constraints, so it's not easy for PH to find recruits.

if Yordi turns out to be a good player, then we will be praising Hartley.

Its too early to forecast how the season will turn out, if Stewart goes as I suspect he will, that could  be a concern, but until then let's wait and see.

Not having a go but what are you basing your "decent defenders are thin on the ground" quote on?. Everyone in the SPFL is working to budgets, some stricter than others and I'm pretty sure they have signed defenders.

For the most part our defence was decent last season once O'Dea came in so I'm hopeful we'll concede far fewer goals this season.

I usually try to be upbeat but I find it hard to argue with the earlier posts in this thread.

We had pretty obvious deficiencies in the first team and squad all of last season and I don't think we've really addressed any of them.

Either Hartley is blind to the problems, or I'm not seeing the solutions he's found, the latter is more likely, so I'm hoping he proves me totally wrong.

For the first time in as long as I can remember, I haven't seen any of our warm up games and missed last week. Hope it's a good start.

I'm the same as you in not having seen anything of Dundee since last season. Caught in two minds re-tomorrow as everything seems flat and the reports so far haven't painted a great picture.

What's really concerned me is that some of the more upbeat posters on here and a few of my mates who don't post here that usually look for the bright side were appalled by last week and the friendlies.

The real ball came out last week but hopefully we're waiting for our first home game to hit top gear.

Couldn't go last week due to work. Booked a couple of nights up in Aberdeen around the Peterhead game and having a week up north half an hour from Dingwall, so will be going to these games. Want to give Dundee some dosh but when you add up the costs of Dumbarton, Peterhead, Forfar nxt wk and Ross County, for 2 adults and a kid it adds up to a few bob. When you factor in all the negativity as well is it all worth it?. Dundee will always have the monopoly on our spare cash but sometimes you do wonder what your gonna get when head off to one of our games.

I'm 'fortunate/unfortunate' that none of my kids are interested in football (I have tried...). It certainly saves me dosh but it also means that I know their interest is merely politeness for my sake. It also means I do far less away games these days than I ever have. I admire those who have the mental and financial fortitude to go home and away most weeks.

Hope it all proves worth it.

I couldn't, or more to the point wouldn't, go home and away every week.  Plus we've been promised a couple of freebies for the County game so that should keep the costs down a wee bit.
