Dundee keeper Scott Bain may not be risked for today’s League Cup clash with Dumbarton.

The Scotland call-up was absent from the Dark Blues squad who drew 1-1 with East Fife last weekend.

And it is unclear whether Bain will be risked, with David Mitchell putting in a decent show between the posts at Methil.

Bain is nursing a knee problem at present.

And while Greg Stewart is set to be risked, despite missing more than a week of training prior to Monday, the need to throw Bain in at the deep end is not seen as quite so necessary.

The 24-year-old’s injury is not thought to be serious, though.

Elsewhere on the injury front, Stewart is expected to start the Sons encounter having shaken off a thigh problem.

He picked up the issue during the club’s warm-weather, pre-season training camp in Austria.

Nicky Low is still set to be absent as are longer-term injury victims Paul McGowan and James McPake.

Former Northern Irish international McPake is still some way off with a January date pencilled in for a return, while McGowan was this week being assessed by a specialist to determine when he will be available for selection.

Kosta Gadzhalov is edging closer to a return to action but is currently on leave back in Bulgaria after his partner gave birth this week.
