Just read this article on prize money break down for the league cup.

THE winners of this season's Betfred Cup will receive £200,000 in prize money.

Details of how the £1.8 million prize pot will be broken down can be revealed today.

And a significant six-figure sum is on offer to the team which triumphs at Hampden in November.

The League Cup was given a summer makeover with Betfred announced as its new sponsors and BT Sport agreeing a broadcasting rights deal.

The first phase of the competition kicked off on July 15 and is a seeded sectional stage with eight groups of five clubs.

The eight group winners and four best runners-up advance to the last 16 where they will be joined by Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibernian.

A total of £1.38m will be paid out in prize money with £420,000 set aside for clubs whose ties are selected for live TV coverage.

As well as the prize money for winning, the successful club will also earn a £30,000 live TV payment and a share of the gate receipts on top of what they have made at the turnstiles throughout the competition.

The runners-up will be rewarded to the tune of £100,000 and receive a live TV payment of £30,000 as well as their portion of the gate receipts.

Clubs who go out in the group stages will be paid more depending on where they finished.

Fifth-placed teams will each get £15,000; fourth-placed clubs will each receive £17,000 and third-placed sides will each get £19,000. The four worst runners-up will each be handed £23,000.

Teams exiting in the second round will each receive £30,000 while the quarter-final losers earn £50,000 apiece.

The losing semi-finalists will each receive £70,000.

One SPFL club source says the money on offer for finishing bottom of the group is double what clubs received if they went out in the first round last season.

And the bumping up of prize money, together with additional broadcast revenue, goes a long way to explaining why the League Cup revamp was given the green light – and why it is here to stay until at least 2020.

LIVE: Updates from Rangers v Stranraer in the Betfred Cup

A new feature has seen the introduction of a bonus point for teams who win a penalty shoot-out at the end of matches which are drawn after 90 minutes.

Clubs shown live on BT Sport in the group stages will earn £10,000 each. The payment rises to £20,000 per team for games broadcast from the second round to the semis with £30,000 handed to each Betfred Cup finalist.

So far, Rangers have raked in £20,000 in live TV payments. Arbroath, Dundee United, Motherwell, East Stirlingshire, Falkirk and St Johnstone have all earned £10,000.

Rangers and Stranraer will each get £10,000 when tonight's match at Ibrox is screened live.

One fixture from this weekend's final round of group games will be selected for the box with the chosen clubs cashing in.

Not to do with the money side of it but we'll have to win tomorrow to have a chance of qualifying. There are already 6 second placed teams on 6 points. Only 4 qualify. If East Fife win at Forfar that's them won the section.
