Dundee have been forced to throw in school kids for tonight’s Irn Bru Cup clash with Cove Rangers, after competition laws ruled out a large chunk of their U/20 squad.

The Dark Blues Colts take on the Highland League outfit at Forfar Athletic’s Station Park this evening but have been weakened by the loss of youth stars such as Sam Dryden, Matty Allan, Jesse Curran and Andy Black.

Age limit rules see that foursome miss out, while preparation for first-team duties at Ross County will also see Craig Wighton ruled out.

Players must be born before January 1, 1997, in order to be eligible.

As a result, youth boss Jimmy Boyle has been forced to call in the kids, some of whom are still of school age.

Boyle has drafted in a number of the club’s U/17 side.

He will have keeper Kyle Gourlay available and front-man Josh Skelly also qualifies.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7.45pm.
