I'm a huge fan of his,as I'm sure every dee is,however if theres only 1 part of his game thats really poor and that's penalties. Has he ever saved one for us?He maybe has and I just can't remember.I wonder why his record is so poor because his reactions are top clasd, strange. It looks like he makes his decision and goes either way quite early.Or maybe it's just bad luck?

Before people start moaning at me,this isn't me trying to criticise bain, because I think he is the best keeper we've had since speroni (maybe even better) and I would love to see him play here for years to come, just think it's odd why he hasn't saved any (or more) for us

Maybe some of the good amateur/junior/semi or ex professional keepers, on here, can gie you a considered answer.

Certainly the days 'o the man jist goin' up to the penalty spot, banging it hard & hoping the keeper disnane get tae it,

are no longer wi' us. Similarly, the keeper having to root himself to the spot and in maist cases relying on speed/luck

are now confined to the history books. Speed of eye & body, athleticism, fitness,  antics, & psychology, plays a part :)

Flip a coin a thousand times and you'll get massive streaks of consecutive heads or tails appearing somewhere. When the odds favour the penalty taker, it isn't that surprising if this streak becomes more prominent.

In his career he's faced 30 penalties with 4 of them being saved (14.3%). Think Letheren's great penalty saving record (think he saved 3 with us) was more of an outlier.

From the floor, Bain's distribution is very, very good. Kicking from his hands is what let's him down (but only slightly). Many a time last season Hemmings was the only boy up the park and Bain found him no problem at all. A great outlet.

Thought that despite struggling in many ways, Mitchell's distribution has looked brilliant when played too. Seems to always hit his man perfectly kicking from his hands or ground.

Both of them have great distribution compared to some 'keepers we've had.

Don't be too quick to condemn a goalie for not saving a penalty :)

Even the *best* penalty savers in the WORLD have less than 50% in the top 5. Below the top 5 it drops below 40%

That was a mighty long, but interesting article Joe ....Wonder how many players/keepers would read it. or even benefit from the infromation therein.
