Transfer Money

Recommended Posts

With circa £750k expected at the very least between the 2 transfers, there has been much discussion about the requirement for a replacement forward and a couple of defenders.

I'm thinking that now is a good time to address the contracts of our current talents. I think a renewal/review of Paul Hartley's contract is vital to the long term stability of the club. Additionally, I think it's important we look at Scott Bain's plans. We don't want to see another hot prospect decide to leave at the end of a contract that will see us receive a fraction of his value.

Agreed, would be a wise move to offer bain a decent sized fee to sign a big extension with us.What's the story with o'dea how long does he have, seem to remember him signing a 3year deal but I could be wrong? He's also a very Important player for us

Hasn't Bain got another 3 years to run?

I would like to see a mid twenties versatile player come in at the back.

Bain has just under 2 years to go. Sounds like plenty of time, but I'd be wanting to review his contract by January 17. I might be wrong, but I think once a semi decent player is in his last 12 months they seem to hold all the cards. We've seen this with Greg Stewart, Waghorn has done it with The Rangers and, to highlight the point to a much lesser extent, Ziggy Gordon did it with Accies.

I think we should wait and see if Hartley has learned from him mistakes this season.

If he hasn't then he is not going to take us forward.  Yes he has taken us forward already but if he can't improve us then he is not what we need.

PH has definitely taken us forward, as you say. There is only so much he can do, or any other manager for that matter, with a club Dundee's size though.

IF we win a cup and finish 4th next season by your argument do we then sack Hartley as there is absolutely no way we will improve on that?. Where do you draw the line and say 'that's not improvement' so bye-bye?. I think we've gotta manage our expectations better.

I think Scott Bain is slightly different in that he's a keeper. They tend to play longer and peak at a later age, whereas someone like Stewart at 26yrs old is probably looking at having a shortish period left to maximise his earnings and more likely to move on. Would definitely like a bit of security with Bain though and to get something done before the season is out.

No. Thats improvement and achievement. My point is if he insists on the same mistakes then he hasnt learned and will not take us forward. For example, 5 strikers on at once.
