The Price

Recommended Posts

I know this has been done before, but the price of a TV game is putting many Dee fans off going, I know the arguements of what we make of away fans, but something has to be done to get our felliow Dee's onto the ground, maybe a voucher thing for game after or handed out game before.

I was in s pub after the match today, spoke to a main figure in DFCSS from a couple of years ago, talked about the game, actually the 'box' he never new what I was speaking about, he want at the game, said he wouldn't pay £25 when its on tv, says it all to me, doesn't even have a season ticket now

If folk don't want to go, we can't make them. I get where you're coming from with vouchers and the like, but I don't think it would make much, if any, difference.

If a boy watches a game in a pub, within walking distance of the ground, then he's probably spent half the entrance fee in the pub already. That's his choice and not much will change it.

Games against Rangers and Celtic at Dens will almost always end up on the TV, the £80,000 or whatever we get then will more than make up the number of home fans that rubber the game. Both those away supports are also a bunch of goblins and I'd be upset if we were charging them any less given that they'll always sell out.

I was under the impression we got a figure around about that for every match picked on BT, with about 50k for Sky games. Feel free to correct me though if I'm talking sh**e, it wouldn't be the first time :P

You could be right bud and I hope we do get that sort of figure to compensate.  I was under the impression (maybe misguided) that all the TV money was rolled up into the payments during the season.  I think TV money for cup games may be a different story.  I wouldn't put any money on any of this to be fair.

All the TV money is split up between the teams at the end of the season, we don't get anything for individual games unless it's the cup. Based on where you finish I think.

Fair dos. I'll trust your word over mine :P

I still stand by what I say though in charging that price for bigger games. Celtic/Rangers are always going to sell out and Aberdeen/Hearts will be near enough there, get all the extra revenue possible.

If a Dundee fan isn't going to the match just because they're being charged £3 more than what they'd get charged for a standard price then I'd be surprised if they attended many matches at all. The board clearly know what they're doing and if we were out of pocket by charging a higher price they simply wouldn't do it.

Our crowd is 4000-5000 any more and it's day trippers. We need to budget for that. We will NEVER win back the fans we have lost.

Win games and cups and people will return, far to many false dawns for Dundee I am afraid. Without consistent reaults and some cup success we will have to accept we are where we are and crowds will stay the same or drop.

All this is easier said that done. No club outside of Celtic have consistently put a team on the park that finishes top 4 and wins cups. So basically what we're saying is, the only way more people will turn up is if we do something that no club without massive resources has achieved for as long as I remember.

I think we have to stop kidding ourselves that there are hordes of Dees waiting for some certain set of circumstances before they pour back in through the doors. Yes, if we can win a league or put the scum across the road down, a few extra thousand will turn up for that one occasion, but they simply won't go week in week out.

Seriously, look at StJ or Ross Co, or ICT. They've all won cups in recent years. How much have their crowds gone up? Zero.
