Game In America

Does anyone have any idea what's happening with this or if this is even still in the pipeline? Over the Summer the inclination in the papers was that it was about 80% done but nothing's been mentioned since. 

It's a bit of a nightmare looking at potentially trying to get over there/sorting stuff out with work when you're not even sure when or if it's happening.

One of my pals was asking me about this today. He knows I'm planning on going if it happens and he seems to think its a great idea (he's a hun but a massive football fan generally). As far as I know the SPL/SFA have green lit it but it needs to go to UEFA to get their blessing but that's anecdotal so possibly bollox.  It would be good if the club made some kind of statement to let us know the state of play, ie if its still on the cards with a few T's to cross or whatever.

Was speaking to nelms and JT recently.  

It's 99% happening. St Patrick's week. There is nothing else on football wise In march i believe.

Even UEFA don't allow it every club is allowed to opt-out of a league fixture to play a friendly. Imagine we'd do this.

Neil Doncaster was asked about this in a radio interview a few weeks ago and said the SPFL were open to the idea. He said anything that can raise the profile of the SPFL in America would be good for the game. However, he went onto say that neither Dundee or Celtic had applied to the SPFL for permission for this game and as far as he understood, discussions between the clubs and 3rd parties in the States were at a very early stage.

I think we are still at the stage where it seems like a good idea but not a lot has been done about it. Given that the clubs seem to want to play the game during this season, I'm surprised they haven't even gotten as far as seeking permission from the SPFL, never mind UEFA. (according to Doncaster)

It is a league fixture not an opt out. And even if it was Celtic had their's last weekend v Milan - so they could not do it twice but as I say it does not come under that category.

Apparently when asked about it, UEFA seemed more than happy to pass the buck on to the SPFL/SFA to make the decision.

Cheers, was hoping someone had heard something from someone associated with the club. Hopefully they don't leave it too long to announce stuff.

I'm putting money aside now for it. Not much but it all helps and if it doesn't happen the money will be for next years ST's. Hate not being able to spend it because my pocket money is pretty meagre but I've missed too many games over the years so I'm detirmined to make this one assuming it happens.

That's great stuff bud. Like I say hopefully there's some kind of announcement soon because flight's etc aren't going to get any cheaper and they'll need to give as much notice as possible to let as many people get the chance to go.

Really hope it happens, a few days away boozing in America sounds absolutely magic.

If it happens club should do a raffle for a pair of flight tickets, hotel and game tickets. £5 entry or something.
