The best is yet to come from Mark O’Hara says Dundee boss

It’s early days but Mark O’Hara’s start to life at Dens Park has definitely been impressive.

And Dundee boss Paul Hartley reckons his midfield dynamo will only get “better and better”.

O’Hara netted his first senior goal just moments before half-time in the Dark Blues’ 2-1 home defeat to Rangers on Saturday.

Not only that, his all-action, energetic display saw the 20-year-old summer signing from Kilmarnock named Man of the Match by the watching punters.

It’s not just the punters’ eyes he’s been catching.

His performances so far have also left his manager very impressed.

And Paul thinks the former Scotland youth international will only improve.

Speaking about his show at the weekend, the gaffer said: “The player who stood out for me was O’Hara. He was outstanding. I thought he showed exactly what he can do.

“He is just 20 years of age. He showed he has running power and I thought he was absolutely superb for us.”

Known more for his defensive work when he was at Kilmarnock, at Dens Park his new boss’s intention has been to use him in a more advanced role.

“As soon as I spoke to Mark I told him I saw him playing as a central midfielder getting forward.

“From day one I said I had no interest in him playing right-back or centre-half.

“He can only get better and better.

“He has a great engine, great energy and can score goals.”

The Dark Blues play host to Hamilton Accies tonight.

And the game could see recent signing Faissal El Bakhtaoui make his first start since signing up under freedom of contract.

The former Dunfermline goal-getter’s two appearances so far have been from the bench.

He impressed when he came on midway through the second half against Rangers and has been working on his fitness levels in training.

That could see the French Moroccan striker handed that starting jersey against Accies.

Meanwhile, work on adding to the squad is continuing and St Mirren’s Stevie Mallan remains a target but only if the price is right.

With the Accies game brought forward because of a fixture clash with city neighbours United, time is running out for a new face to be signed for that one.
