Dundee fans have launched a bid to bring Oor Bobby to Dens Park.

The popular Bucket Trail sculpture, located in the Overgate, will go up for auction to raise funds for the ARCHIE Foundation.

The Dundee FC Supporters Society said it wants to bring the statue ‘home’. A target of £1,962 – the year Dundee won the league – has been set to submit a bid at the event at the Dundee Rep on September 13.

A statement on the JustGiving page read: “The society board feel it would be appropriate to try to secure the Oor Bobby statue for Dundee fans and to place it in what would seem to be its natural home at Dens Park.

“The final location of the statue, should we succeed in the purchase, would be the Bobby Cox Stand concourse.”

The group added that they would be willing to work alongside another group or individual with similar intentions to bring Oor Bobby to Dens Park.

A similar crowdfunding page has also been set up by consultant Dr Simon Cawley. He hopes to raise enough funds to place one of the statues permanently in Ninewells Hospital for staff and patients to enjoy.

The money being raised via crowdfunding is to allow any individuals or groups who want to contribute the opportunity to do so to bolster the bid.

The supporters society will be adding to the monies raised and unless it gets stupid in terms of bids I'd imagine they'll do everything possible to secure the statue.

Also, 1962 was just a quirky figure to pay tribute to our league winning side. There is no target really. The more raised, the better though as it's all going to a great cause.

Up to £657 at present.. brilliant stuff!
