Dundee eye swoop for ex-Motherell defender

Dundee are eyeing a move for former Motherwell defender Tom Hateley.

The 26-year-old, who recently left Polish side Slask Wroclaw, has also been talking to Hibs.

Son of former England international Mark, who had a brief spell coaching the strikers at Dens Park a decade or so ago, Hateley had a successful four years with Motherwell before heading for Tranmere Rovers in 2013.

After a brief stay there he headed for Slask, making more than 70 league appearances over two seasons.

Hateley’s experience of top-flight football here as well as his versatility — he can play at right-back, central defence and in midfield — could make him a valuable addition to Paul Hartley’s squad.

It’s understood a number of clubs south of the border have also been showing an interest.

Meanwhile, former Dark Blue Craig Forsyth is facing another lengthy absence after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury during Derby’s goalless draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.

It’s the Scotland international’s second serious knee wound in the space of 10 months.

It’s the same injury that forced him to miss a large chunk of last season and he only made his first competitive appearance since November earlier this month.

“This is incredibly unfortunate and disappointing news for Craig,” Derby boss Nigel Pearson said.

“He worked incredibly hard to get back to fitness for the start of pre-season training and had done well in the early-season games.

“He will have all the support and encourage-ment that he needs.”
