IMO you will in time end up with folk supporting two teams all round Europe.

one super league team and a local team. In a way it might actually really help football for clubs our size.

Yeah I suppose it could, with all the travelling around the continent to play away games you would like to think that there would be a big proportion of supporters who due to the expense end up going  local games instead.

Celtic and rangers fans support their local side? Nah, never.

They take no interest in football outside of their own club and their rival now and that will never change IMHO.

Was talking in general terms mate, not specifically about the old firm as Abdul posted about all around Europe.

Fair enough mate. I'm not sure that died in the wool fans of their clubs would find themselves able (or able to afford to) to build up a new allegiance for a team they used to play against.

Maybe the next generation of supporters could though?

A No from me.

The elite clubs already have a league -The Champions League - which allows them to make enough dosh as it is.

Impact across Europe on tv money alone for those not invited to the party would be damaging. Imagine an EPL without the big guns. Would Sky continue to pump ridiculous amounts into it? I doubt it.

And for us? Highly doubt if both the Old Firm would be involved - doubt if even Celtic would be. So, likely we'd still be stuck with them.

A lot has been said of the so called closed shops in some American sports - key point for me is America is one country, Europe is not. So I'm not sure we can simply cut n paste the concept.

Anyhow, It's gonna happen in some form regardless.

Boys saying it would take the money out the game as the bug clubs wouldn't be there.

Surely we could get a better playing field. The team who is relegated from the English premier gets £150 MILLION  i believe.

We are on par with league 2 teams. You not see a problem here.

Let them go. All them. I watch Chelsea on TV atm, only difference would be there were in the Super league instead of the Premiership.

If ever a merger raises it's head, it will take people with intelligence, foresight, honest intentions and first class PR skills.

My personal feelings are that it will happen at some point and I will be long gone by that time.

If any party tries to do it as a means of getting one up on their opposite number, it would be doomed to fail.

The honest truth of the situation is that our City is not large enough to support two teams and I've heard all the arguments to the contrary.

I'm with Weighorst'sWang (fixed that for ya!) on this one.

The attraction of a Euro super league is mostly felt at a global level (Asia, USA etc) and would have little impact on the domestic game where it would be viewed a little like the WWE is to wrestling (ie clearly related to the ancient sport but only in the way that a Tyrannosaurus Rex is related to a Hedge Sparrow.)

I think they would invite Celtic and Rangers to join such a league simply because of their international drawing power. They would be foolish not to, in fact.

With them gone, we could reboot Scottish Football. The grotesque imbalance between the resources of the two uglies and the other Scottish clubs has been depleting the sport in this country for too long. The sycophantic panderings of the governing bodies has been a national embarrassment. With all that swept away, we stand a chance of entering a new phase of the game in Scotland and hopefully develop a decent international team in the process.

I'd be happy to start a fund to pay for their bus fare to the first meeting........

If they did go then Partick would be playing to full houses. The first club in Scotland where it was necessary to segregate the home fans

Agree wholeheartedly with your post.
