Transfer window is shut but Dundee not done for business

Recommended Posts

Dundee had a quiet end to the summer transfer window — but that does not mean they are done for business yet.

It’s understood the Dark Blues are still looking to add two players to their ranks — thought to be a striker and a right-back — despite failing in their attempts to get bodies in before the window slammed shut.

Their failure on Wednesday was not through a lack of trying, with talks staged with a number of clubs and players — including Tangerines’ new boy Tony Andreu, who penned a one-year loan at Tannadice — but no deal was able to be pushed over the line.

With Dundee boss Paul Hartley mainly shopping in the released-players market, anyway, the closure of the window has not brought an end to his work.

The club are still patiently waiting for an answer from former Motherwell man Tom Hateley. Released by Polish side Slask Wroclaw recently, he is free to talk to clubs past last night’s midnight deadline.

Should a deal be done with the 26-year-old, son of former Rangers and England forward Mark Hateley, he would be seen as right-back competition for Cammy Kerr.

But it’s understood Bolton Wanderers are in pole position to sign him, due to their ability to offer better wages.

Dundee have made the player an offer, but the Tele understands another Scottish club, thought to be Hibs, as well as the English League One outfit, have been able to trump the Dens Parkers financially.

The only business at the end of the window that Dundee did get done was the release of reserve Andy Black by mutual consent.
